'Responsible stewardship'... what struck me about these words from our new PM is how reassuring and compelling they sounded - though also weirdly alien and archaic... Is it something that we're in danger of losing sight of in the ad and marketing industries -over the last few years of hand-to-mouth trading, and chasing the newest tech shiny shiny..? For me it's a motivating and grounding thought... that the brands we work on - as client-side or agency teams - are only ours for a while... and that our job is to look after them and hand them on in better shape than we found them... Stronger sales Stronger brand equity Proactive plans not knee-jerk reactions masquerading as agility Better impact on the people who buy them Better impact on the wider world... Rooted in a clear-sighted view of what people need and want, and what's going to work... doing the right things, and doing them right. And in taking a long-term view, not bringing in a new idea every 6 months just as the previous one is starting to take root... Consistency, rigour and experience are not the opposite of creativity - they're a powerful foundation where insights and ideas can thrive and grow, and that gives space for experimentation...
