Ahead of MWC, an interesting report from UKTIN on AI in Telecoms. I was surprised to see that the IT and Telecommunications category makes up 29.5% of deployed AI solutions across sectors. Clearly gaining momentum, the Market Insights Report stretches across these 4 areas: ✅ Funding ✅ Key UK academic and industrial R&D&I activities ✅ International activities ✅ Partnerships Looking forward to hearing more from the industry at MWC about improving network efficiency, increasing energy efficiency, ensuring private secure communications, and optimising customer services. Telecommunications plays a central role in bringing us all together. But increased commoditization has made it difficult for telecom providers to stand out. This is where Amelia steps in. 📞Amelia is pre-trained with telecom-specific knowledge and use cases. 📞Telecom subject matter experts can easily build AI agents to suit their unique needs. 📞Generative AI capabilities help telecoms accelerate time to value. 📞Amelia speaks 100+ languages and is available on voice and chat channels. The real-world impact of Amelia's AI agents is profound. At one major telecom company, Amelia automates 4.5 million calls every month, while also achieving a strong overall NPS. Amelia offers telecom companies a powerful way to differentiate in an increasingly commoditized market, so they can continue doing what they do best—connecting our world. A global alliance of major telcos, including Deutsche Telekom, e&, Singtel, SoftBank, and SK Telecom, has officially joined forces to develop a large language model (LLM) specifically designed for the telecom industry. This groundbreaking collaboration aims to harness the power of #AI to address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by telecom operators, ultimately enhancing efficiency and driving innovation across the sector. By working together and pooling resources, these industry leaders are paving the way for a new era of AI-powered telecommunications. The potential applications of this telco-specific #LLM are vast, ranging from improved customer service and fraud detection to optimised network performance. While the development of LLMs is still in its early stages, the formation of this global alliance signals a strong commitment to exploring the transformative potential of AI in telecommunications. It will be fascinating to witness the potential advancements that emerge from this collaboration and the impact it will have on the industry as a whole.

AI/ML Cluster Leader at Nokia | D.Sc. in Computing and Electrical Engineering - all opinions are my own
Performance is vital for machine learning solutions, but it holds no value without reliability! In the realm of critical systems such as mobile network infrastructure, it is imperative that our machine learning solutions are not just of superior performance, but utterly trustworthy, even in the most exceptional and elusive circumstances. Our recent blog by Dimitri (Dima) Gold, Fahad Syed Muhammad, PhD, and István Zsolt Kovács explores how to establish a robust conformance testing framework for AI-native cellular systems and how Nokia drives reliable AI in telecom standards. #Nokia #AI #5G #6G
Robust conformance testing is essential for AI-native cellular systems and we're at the forefront in 3GPP to standardize a new testing framework, supporting AI-based features. With focus on generalization and test coverage, management and monitoring, post-deployment handling and upgrade of the testing setup, Nokia is committed to the development of the standard that will ensure the reliable and trusted implementation of AI-powered 5G-Advanced use cases and the AI-native air interface in the upcoming 6G. Learn more about why reliability starts with testability in our latest blog post: https://nokia.ly/45khayI #Nokia #5GAdvanced #6G #AI

Late last month, I was interviewed for this piece on the impact of AI on Africa telcos. I'm of the opinion that AI in Africa cannot scale beyond our level of digital connectivity. People who are offline cannot be easily represented in datasets used in building products or services that may be targeted at them. Lack of representation means reduced utility. Reduced utility in turn means limited capacity to leverage on AI for a better quality of life and productivity. We need to scale internet access, if we want to really scale AI in Africa.
NEWS: Many African telecoms operators are turning to #AI as a differentiator to improve their #mobilenetworks and enhance #customerservice and experience as they transition from traditional telco offerings into new tech-first verticals. #ConnectingAfrica correspondent Chiti Louise Mbizule investigates: http://spr.ly/6046XPdXQ
