Last year was a turning point as generative AI made a spectacular appearance in our lives, Leading to an explosion of Gen AI products in the market. Prompt engineering! In the coming months, we will see which of these products are useful and timely enough to survive, alongside a gradual dying off of those that are not. But with industry leaders like Microsoft launching products like Copilot, I'm confident that by the second half of this year, we are going to see the next level solutions: 👉🏼 Enterprise-ready AI. This is what will actually be of practical use in a variety of industries and situations, And where we’re likely to see more serious adoption of AI on a global scale. I think this presents an incredible opportunity for AI startups to spend some time focusing their expertise and resources to define their niche. The market for AI is flooded and noisy right now, and hardly catches my interest – but if there's one thing I'm looking forward to later in the year, it's trialing purpose-built, enterprise-ready AI solutions. This is wild! A custom animated Avatar based on a single picture and audio file. What is going on at Microsoft lately? They're doing crazy AI research! I'm sure you all heard about Synthesia, but have you heard about the new VASA-1 model from Microsoft Research? It's both incredible and scary. One thing is sure: At some point, it will be made available to the general public. Still, ethical and security-oriented concerns to be worked on. Companies, like Synthesis and HeyGen, have already shown that there is demand for creating AI-generated avatars. However, it remains to be seen how companies will use this technology when they can access the tools to make avatars on their own. I'm sure we'll see an explosion in use cases (and new startups) when the technology becomes available. The future is for sure going to be a wild ride. #GenAI #AIAvatars #artificialintelligence

It’s funny to see the venture space finally coming around to the idea that “the value is in the application layer” of AI more and more. Been saying this for well over a year and what started as ridicule, is slowly dying out. With foundational models becoming commoditised (from claude, to llama, to mistral) gpt-4 class models are becoming commonplace and open source. Soon, we will even be able to execute them on our phones… And as that foundation layer gets commoditised, the value to the consumer comes from specific apps and use cases, building solutions to problems in a way no one thought possible before. This is also why there has been such a lag in productivity gain from this technology. Too many people guided by investors to build their own models or look for technological breakthroughs instead of riding the wave and looking for how this technology can *actually* help you build better solutions to problems that exist in the world. The AI conundrum No doubt that everyone is doing something in AI - either providing infrastructure, capabilities and agents, or using the above to drive increasing efficiency. The conundrum is most startups need the data their customers possess, to get better (synthetic data not withstanding) and most companies need external skills/capabilities to really use their internal data. The second challenge is that productivity gains seem small initially. And most of 2024 will be filled with experiments.
