WARNING ⚠️ Unpopular opinion: The heart block poem & love story did not work for me. I struggled with heart blocks. Everyone tried to get me to understand the love story poem and I’m so glad it was helpful for so many! But for me: it never clicked. I’m visual and simple. When I had to teach heart blocks to students I said alright - how can I make this simple & foundational? I stripped back all the anecdotes and focused on one thing: the PR intervals. Here is a different take on heart blocks. 1st degree: All the PRIs are long and the same. 2nd degree Type 1: PRIs get progressively longer & eventually a QRS is missing. (Longer, longer, longer drop then you have a Wenckebach) 2nd degree Type 2: PRIs are all the same & a QRS drops. (If some things just don’t get through, then you have a Mobitz 2). 3rd degree: PRI intervals are all over the place, no pattern to them. Hope it helps! #ecg #ekg #cardiology #ecginterpretation #electrocardiogram #nursing #cardiologista #heart #ccu #cathlab #cardio #physician #medical #doctor #medicalstudent #lpn

Our primary role as radiographers is to produce images that give the reviewer the best possible chance to diagnose potential pathology. In this quest we often forget about our chief stakeholders in the exchange - the patient experience. We are the face of the profession, the first port of call, and interactions, whether positive or negative, can leave a lasting impact on the perception of our field as a whole. In the latest ISRRT webinar, Steve Lacey sat down with Dr Emma Hyde National Teaching Fellow, PhD,MEd,BSc (Hons) to discuss her enthralling study on taking person centred approaches to care in diagnostic imaging. Her work impresses that this area still needs improvement and has some great suggestions that all radiographers would do well to take on board. She and her colleague, via the University of Derby, have also created a free educational tool kit (https://lnkd.in/geUYZFEW) for self-audit practice as well as brushing up on these fundamental skills. It may also serve as a possible preparation for students embarking on clinical placement, an element that institutions may want to incorporate into their coursework. I will definitely be making use of the resource ahead of my next placement block. #medicalimaging #radiography #personcentredcare #professionaldevelopment #clinicalplacement
