As I stand at the threshold of this new chapter, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude. Completing the Corporate Claims Claim Trainee Development Program has been a remarkable experience, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my fellow Great Americans. During the past eight months, I have learned so many lessons. The first lesson being the art of perseverance. The path wasn’t always smooth, but I learned to embrace challenges. Each trial was a puzzle, and every solution a victory. Next, was humility, impostor syndrome knocked on my door, but I realized it’s a sign of growth. Lastly, community, the insurance world is vast, but our connections make it feel like a cozy corner. Let’s keep learning together. I would like to take a second to express my appreciation of Mary E. Bruggeman. Your wisdom, patience, and encouragement has helped shape my journey. Thank you for sharing your expertise and believing in my potential. Heading back home after a fabulous Camelot event, yes the sun is still up but I've got a long journey home and the reliability of the trains means I no longer risk getting late ones. Additionally, I don't enjoy being on a late train full of drunk people 🤮. Really pleased to say I'll be back up in July for another return to Generali doing a piece of contract work for them. I learnt a lot from working with exec over the years, one thing was the benefits of cross sell and product density as opposed to having multiple customers. Pretty much ever since I went solo I've put this learning into practice, working across most departments and teams at Generali, as well as across business units. I like to think this is due to a combination of things, being easy to get on with, delivering great outcomes, always reliable, and trustworthy. It's not all me though, I'm grateful for the leadership supporting me with my ways of working. They respect my needs, they understand my goals, and have always been happy to accept my quirks. Others laughed when I told them things like this, they said I'd struggle to find such a place. When I described the type of work I love doing I was told life isn't perfect, and how only working two days a week is never enough, but that didn't matter because I never wanted lots of options for work, I just wanted the one that was right for me, and for my customer. Thinking back to my learnings from underwriters, yes it's risky not having multiple clients, putting all your eggs in one basket, but I'm definitely now winding down the working stage in my life so that's not really something I worry about. Best advice I could give anyone is if you have a dream that makes you excited turn it into a goal and relentlessly pursue it. Don't give up when things get tough, you'll only regret it later, instead be flexible with your route and find a different path, but always aim at that goal 💪. I'm off to relax by racing around the North Wales mountains until July, see some of you when I return ❤️

Week 7 of my internship at NAU Country Insurance flew by! The beginning of the week was busy due to the acreage reporting deadline! Day 1 and 2: I got thrown into the world of acreage reporting. My manager and I went up north to help an agent key acres. There I got the opportunity to key acres by myself for the first time! Least to say, I asked a ton of questions. Eventually as I went on the questions became fewer and fewer. By the end of the 2 days I was finally getting the hang of it! I grew an appreciation for all the background work that the underwriters undertake. Day 3: I got to sit in on a training session for a new agent. It was interesting to see the NAU applications from the agents’ point of view. I was also amazed at all the applications NAU provides for tracking the weather! After the training, my manager and I visited another agent to talk about…acreage reporting. :) Day 4: I had the opportunity to shadow a Claims Specialist. She taught me about what she looks at on the documents sent in from the adjusters. There are a ton of things that need to be right and in order to pay a claim. She was very knowledgeable and taught me a lot about the logistics and rules that need to be followed. This week I learned that there is a ton of background work that goes into reporting correct information to insure that the farmer is receiving the correct amount of coverage. When sitting with the Claims Specialist I noticed how vital communication as a team is. Everyone rallies together by completing their job to work towards a common goal. I always tried to get them to send the design engineers out for a period of time to see how the equipment they were designing was used and how each unit interacted with the whole system and get any ideas the process performers/end users had. Next step was to interface with the maintenance organization for ease of service and for known issues and any ideas they had. Ideas need to be able to flow in from various levels of the organization and then be vetted the same way, not in a silo.

It’s B Corp Month! 🎉 With this being the first for Avery & Brown | B Corp™, the entire team came together over the past couple of weeks to put our heads together and create a strategy to get everyone involved in the celebrations. For my first task during #BCorpMonth, Tilly and I were tasked with completing B Lab UK’s ‘Behind the B’ training course for some personal development. This course is useful for anyone looking to learn a bit more about the B Corp movement and what it has set out to achieve.
