OJK Aims for Fair and Transparent Crypto Market Mechanism. 🔍 Overview: The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is gearing up to establish a fair and transparent market mechanism for crypto assets, as the regulatory authority shifts from the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti) to OJK, with completion expected next year. 🗣️ OJK's Vision: "We hope that OJK’s future regulations will bring about a market mechanism that is fair and transparent," stated Hasan in Jakarta on Friday (10/11/2023). He emphasized the need for clear capabilities of market operators so investors can make informed choices and for an efficient market mechanism. 📉 Dramatic Drop in Crypto Transactions: The crypto asset transaction volume has drastically decreased by 224% year-on-year to IDR 94.4 trillion in Q3 2023, continuing a yearly downtrend. From IDR 859.4 trillion in 2021, it fell 63% to IDR 306.4 trillion in 2022. 🔖 Taxation Impact: OJK recently highlighted high taxation as a primary factor behind this decline in transaction volume. 📃 Tax Regulations: As per the Ministry of Finance’s Decree No. 68/PMK.03/2022 effective from May 1, 2022, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Income Tax (PPh) are imposed on crypto trading transactions. Buyers or recipients of crypto assets are taxed at 0.11% of the transaction value for trades on Bappebti-registered exchanges, and 0.22% on non-registered exchanges. For sellers or transferors of crypto assets, the tax rate is 0.1% of the trading value on Bappebti-registered exchanges, and 0.2% on others. ⛏️ Mining Taxation: The regulation also covers VAT and PPh for crypto miners and mining services (mining pool), with VAT at 1.1% of the conversion value of confirmed crypto asset transactions and a final PPh rate of 0.1% of the crypto miner’s income, excluding VAT. 💰 State Revenue from Crypto Taxes: Finance Minister Sri Mulyani successfully collected up to IDR 246.45 billion in crypto taxes as of December 2022, indicating the significant contribution of crypto taxation to the state's revenue.
