Last week I attended the course of ICAO Annex 14. This training was given in class by Mr. Dirk Anders from airsight GmbH. This course enables the participants to interpret and implement the ICAO Annex 14 specifications – or the national implementation thereof – related to Runways, Taxiways, Aprons and adjacent areas. Safety is a top priority in aviation. In order to meet the high standards in Europe, air traffic controllers (#ATCO) have clear agreements about working and rest times. Nevertheless the work can be tiring. How to manage fatique risk?   To evaluate the implementation of #EU rules, and to conduct research into the prevalence, causes and effects of ATCO fatigue, with a view to provide guidance on mitigation measures where necessary, a consortium led by NLR and Welbees was commissioned to collect scientific data on the workload and fatigue of ATCOs employed at air traffic service providers (#ATSP) that provide services in the EASA member states.   More than 200 ATCOs participated in a study at multiple ATSPs across Europe.
