SPORTS DAY 2024 Monday 15th July 2024 was my school's Sports Day. And I love the way my school organises it (which was reorganised when it started to rain). There are a mixture of traditional and novel sporting activities which allows every member of the school to participate. This is thanks to my colleagues M and D who always ensure sporting activities are inclusive. On the day, my favourite sporting activities were basketball and soft archery. That said my least favourite activity was Ultimate Frisbee! (It’s not fun trying to throw a frisbee when it’s windy!). Did you have Sports Day when you were at school? 🔝🎓 I’m excited to announce the completion of my training in the Sports Leadership Program by AFA in collaboration with FIU! 🌍⚽ This program provided me with the opportunity to dive deep into several key areas in the world of sports, including: -Talent Identification: I developed skills to discover and nurture athletic talent. - Sports Event Operations Management: I gained essential knowledge for planning and successfully executing sports events. - Sports Marketing: I learned how to create strategies that connect fans with their favorite teams and athletes. -Social Responsibility: I explored how sports can be a powerful force for social change. -Globalization of Football: I analyzed how football is breaking barriers and uniting people across the globe.

In case you missed it last month, we shared about each of our 5 Essential Networks. Without these 5 groups of people, First Priority would not be possible! 👏 Here's the recap: First and foremost: our students! They are the Heroes of First Priority, leading the clubs. We often compare our networks to a sports team, and our students are the players in the game, on the field. 🏈⚽️ Parents are "the fans in the stands" praying for, supporting and discipling their children. 🎉 Churches are "the Coaches on the Sidelines" equipping, encouraging and empowering students. Educators are "the Referees of the Game" providing guidance and direction.  Our fifth and final Essential Network are the Business Leaders! Keeping with our sports analogy, they are "the Owners of the Team" investing leadership, mentorship and resources in their community.

Change is an Opportunity for Growth Recently my alma mater, Washington State University, has experienced some changes related to athletics. Changes in conference configuration, changes in its athletic director, and changes in some of their head coaches. While change does represent a degree of uncertainty about the future, it also represents the prospect of exploring fresh possibilities and new frontiers. When faced with (any) change we have the choice in how we respond to it. We can choose: Fear or confidence. Anger or gratitude. Pessimism or optimism. The choice is ours. A shout-out to the people in the WSU athletic department such as Anne McCoy, Mitch Straub, Nathan Thornburg, and Marcus B. for the work you are doing to navigate these changes for the benefit of the student-athletes you serve! Communication is key!

Your gifts will always make room. You may not know Jordynn Dudley, but I’ll fill you in. Jordynn’s presence is consistently calm, and I fondly remember this when she took our Freshman Leadership & Development Course. She didn’t speak much in class, but when she had the opportunity to speak, she knew the communication skills developed in class were preparing her for greater moments that would come. Though quiet, Jordynn’s athletic ability is sensational. Continuing our conversation on International Youth Day, let's discuss the evolving role of young athletes in shaping inclusive sports environments. Young athletes are not only playing for medals but also leading the way for promoting inclusivity in sports. a.) Inclusive Leadership: Today’s young athletes are promoting diversity and equity in their teams. How can we support and amplify their voices? b.) Creating Safe Spaces: Building a culture where every athlete feels seen and valued is important. What are the innovative ways to build such spaces? c.)
