These victims may have complex needs and due to their vulnerabilities and lack of self-worth choose to remain with the abuser All agencies from the criminal justice system to third sector organisations must work collaboratively in monitoring risk to prevent harm and provide support in addressing key areas of support. #Believe

Prince Edward Island's specialized domestic violence court, operational since January, aims to provide timely intervention and support for offenders willing to plead guilty and participate in behavioral programs. This court combines traditional criminal procedures with intensive interventions, aiming to address the root causes of domestic violence through early intervention and support. Our ground-breaking new research, The London Stalking Review, has highlighted how the Criminal Justice System is repeatedly failing those at risk.   This deep dive research uses an established and diverse methodology, which has been adopted in previous E&I products. It draws on analysis of MPS data, interviews with stakeholders and victims, rapid evidence assessment, and deep coding of 400 stalking police crime reports.   The scale of stalking and its impact makes clear that change must happen. Perpetrator programmes can prove controversial, but the new Chrysalis Centre – a £2m scheme operating across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire and funded by the UK Home Office – is hoping that a prevention-first approach can protect domestic abuse victims and their families from harm, as Policing Insight’s James Sweetland reports. ❝In contrast to schemes which seek to engage with victims, perpetrator programmes focus on identifying domestic abusers and putting them through behaviour change interventions to discourage further offending.❞ ❝We think they [perpetrator programmes] have a role to play but we are cautious about them… The evidence base is limited.❞ - Ellie Butt, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Refuge ❝The goal is to handle 1,000 referrals over the next 12 months; 300 high-harm perpetrators will receive intensive multi-agency management and 300 individuals will go through a programme of workshops to understand what domestic abuse is and its long-term impact.❞ ❝The overall aim is to prevent abuse that could not only harm the victim themselves, but also a baby or child growing up in a household marked by violence.❞ ❝I want to see a dramatic reduction in the number of domestic abuse victims in Bedfordshire. The Oxford Handbook of Evidence-based Crime and Justice Policy This book chapter, written by Shawn Peck, Kristopher Glunt, Janet Welsh, and Roger Spaw, showcases how Evidence-based Prevention and Implementation Support (EPIS) has successfully implemented evidence-based strategies for preventing and mitigating youth crime.
