It is with great sadness that the UTS Finance Department announces the recent passing of our former #colleague and great #friend, Rowan Trayler after a battle with #pancreatic #cancer. Rowan was a much loved member of the #UTS #family. Rowan had worked at UTS from the 1980's. So long in fact that when he started it was not called UTS but the New South Wales Institute of Technology. He could not escape the place. When he formally retired he was soon back #teaching casually and imparting his #knowledge and #experience to yet more #students. His area of #expertise was #banking but over his #career he taught a broad variety of #finance subjects at both #undergraduate and #postgraduate level. For most #academics, you could talk about the thousands of students they helped, at least in some small way, along their journeys towards successful #careers. In Rowan's case, over such a long career, these students would have numbered in the hundreds of thousands. At this time we also remember his #passions outside of #work. He loved his #motorcycles, #skiing and the occasional drink. As his friends and colleagues in recent days have sat down to #reminisce about his #life. The stories that came to the fore were not about teaching or work. It was about the times we went out for lunch and a few drinks which then morphed into afternoon drinks, followed by dinner and yet more drinks and usually finished with everybody somehow making it safely home in the early hours of the morning. It's about the slightly dubious escapades that occurred that cannot be detailed here, some things are best left to your #imagination. Probably the most important thing Rowan should have taught us is that it's not important how long you live but that you make the most and enjoy the life that you do have. The time we have is all too short to be wasted. Our #condolences go to his partner, family and friends. Rowan will be sorely missed. #pancreaticcancer #deathnotice #death #retirement

Phew, what a humbling experience. I tackled the second-to-last exam on Wednesday, coming up short by just one question. After a roller coaster of emotions and doubts, I took a day off on Thursday to celebrate my wife's work successes. Then, I immersed myself in a night of intense study on Friday and dedicated this entire day today to preparation before retaking the exam. With this triumph, only one more exam stands between me and the capstone. The finish line is in sight! #NightOwl #WGU #MBA

Many community college students rely on financial aid to reach their educational goals. The Last Dollar Scholarship is a vital resource, and this year’s legislative session made it even better! As with last year, students must have a Student Aid Index (formerly Expected Family Contribution) of less than $20,000 according to their FAFSA form to qualify.
