Can you skate pre-loved? When developing this campaign we were inspired by the short video series produced by Jenkem called ''Can It Skate'' where skaters used unorthodox shoes to skate on. From the Yeezy 350 to Gucci Loafers. When thinking of skateboarding and sneakers, style plays a secondary role. First and foremost the sneakers of choice must be good for skateboarding. Usually these skate shoes don't enjoy a very long life, because of the nature of the activity. This is one of the reasons Nike launched the Nike SB Dunk Low Parra, featuring tear-away uppers. So the question arises: ''why invest a lot of money into shoes that are bound to be destroyed in a matter of weeks?'' This is why we came up with the campaign ''Can you skate pre-loved?'' Urban Exploration : Creatively repurpose urban environments and setting for own purpose. 3. Personal Expression : Skating allows for unique, individual expression. 4. Visual Arts : Skate culture includes deck design, graffiti, and photography/video which most brands try to replicate in today's time. 5. Community Collaboration : Skaters inspire and innovate together creatively, a lot of creative opportunities when it comes to advertising & branding opened up because of the skate community. 6. DIY Ethos : The DIY spirit in skate culture fosters creativity in building ramps, making zines, and producing videos. a story about skateboarding, and a lesson in not giving a f*** last summer I was in Venice Beach: one of the best skateboarding communities in the world. picture a bunch of Tony Hawk’s doing crazy shit, and 100s of people watching in amazement. “I’m going to rip the half-pipe” I said, so I went up and stood on the edge. for context: I'm not a skateboarder. I think skateboarding is fun, I skateboard to get from A → B, but I cannot do the skateboard tricks. but being in Venice, I felt inspired to try, so I went up and stood on the edge of the half-pipe. I got to the edge… and something happened: I looked up. I looked at other skaters ripping up the park, I looked at 100s of eyes watching and critiquing, and I chickened out. I’ve thought about this moment for a while: I let the hypothetical thoughts of other people stop me from doing something I really wanted to do. I wanted a chance to redeem myself. then yesterday… we pulled up to a coffee shop, I looked to the right, and there it was: a half-pipe. it wasn’t as big as Venice... but there were skaters skating, and people watching. so I grabbed a skateboard and went to the drop-in, but this time I did something different: I did not focus on other people, I only focussed on “experience.” 🏎️ experiencing the speed of the skateboard; 🔥 the adrenaline of risk; 😡 the frustration of f**ing up; 🏔️ the triumph of getting better. this teleported me into a room by myself; it was almost like I couldn’t see the other people. all of my attention was inward, feeling every single feeling that came up. it was one of the best experiences of my life. I think I experienced unfiltered life for the first time; the thoughts of other people never crossed my mind. so here is my action step moving forward: people say "picture the audience in their underwear." I say forget about the audience entirely. focus internally; on maximizing YOUR experience, and don’t let the thoughts of other people get in the way. #unfiltered

Do you know how much skateboarding has affected the culture around us? From music and art to writing, skateboarding has left an indelible mark on our collective creativity and expression. Growing up skateboarding, I've felt its influence firsthand. Yesterday in Austin, the godfather of skateboarding, Rodney Mullen, delivered a speech that resonated deeply with me and I believe it will with you too. Tony Hawk might have been there also 😅 Mullen delved into the essence of passion, the importance of doing what we love for the sheer joy of it, and how nurturing this passion is one of life's greatest challenges. He spoke candidly about the inevitable struggles and setbacks, highlighting that the journey is as filled with lows as it is highs, but it's the love for what we do that keeps us going. He questioned the value of external validation and success, proposing that true fulfillment comes from an internal commitment to our craft. Mullen also touched on the power of belief over talent, how breaking through the "impossible" is a matter of faith in oneself, and the role of innovation in pushing boundaries. His reflections on legacy and influence, the living trophies of the tricks he pioneered that have become a language for skaters, offer a profound message on the impact we can have through our passions. Mullen's journey from fear of failure to embracing the joy in the process itself is a testament to growth and the pursuit of what truly matters. This talk was a powerful reminder of the transformative power of pursuing our passions, irrespective of the field. Whether you're a skater, artist, musician, or writer, there's something in Mullen's message for everyone.
