"The most interesting conversations happen in Dubai, not Davos" Over the past 10 days, I've had the privilege of leading an incredible group of 28 undergraduate students from The Wharton School's Huntsman Program as we immersed ourselves in the dynamic business landscape and rich culture of the United Arab Emirates. 🌴☀️ While I have previously lived in Dubai during my time as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and worked on multiple projects across MENA, this immersion allowed me to deepen my understanding of the country and its evolving role in the global economy. Some of the learnings from our experience: 1. Maturing VC & Tech Ecosystem: At AstroLabs, Dubai Future District Fund, Shorooq Partners we saw founder-friendly practices becoming mainstream, backed by steady capital and supportive policies. talabat and Kitopi showcased the quality of operational practices and human capital that is well positioned to capitalize on the high growth economies in the region. 🚀 2. Geopolitical Tailwinds: At DIFC and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), our panelists across J.P. Morgan, Rothschild & Co, hedge funds, and family offices described an elevated global financial center, rising in the backdrop of the pressures on Hong Kong since the pandemic. We are likely continue to see more Dubai offices and HQs. 🏢 3. Progressive Reforms: We saw a policymaking approach that is responsive to learnings from past crises and feedback from the community. The Golden Visa program and the transformation story of ALDAR since the GFC were telling demonstrations of the UAE's iterative track record🧑⚖️ 4. Pivot to Asia: Increasing focus on partnerships with East Asian economies are evidenced by DP World's expansion and collaborations, the upcoming state visits by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, and Mubadala's strategic push towards East Asia. 🇰🇷 🇯🇵 I'm deeply grateful to our corporate hosts and my Emirati friends for their incredible hospitality and this enriching learning experience. I left with new friendships, fresh perspectives, and a deepened appreciation for this dynamic region of the world that is very close to my heart. 🇦🇪 If you're a student, investor, or tech professional curious to learn more about opportunities in the Middle East, I'm always happy to connect! 🤝 #HuntsmanProgram #Wharton #Dubai #AbuDhabi #UAE
