Based on https://lnkd.in/dk56sr97, my VDOT is 28.3. This is a score that represents my current running fitness and determines what intensities I need to train at to improve performance. The calculator also computes the equivalent race performances for the current running performance at 16km. My current training regime does not allow me to do a full marathon yet, and it is reassuring to know that I can complete a half-marathon at 7min/km pace. Working towards strengthening legs' muscles to prevent cramps. Targeted training or intervention will increase the chance of success.

Can traditional weightlifting actually improve running economy? Strength training is most effective when applied with great specificity. IMO, we see way too much general strength training on social media with a focus on “building muscle” and not “strengthening a movement” Building muscle is not bad by any means. But it needs to be specific to your goal. If your goal is to build muscle, then obviously this is perfectly fine. However when we do see movement specific training, it’s usually high level work that is very specific to the athlete who is performing the exercise. Running is a rotational movement. We move backwards and forwards at the same time. The gait cycle is a complex cohort of movements and should be trained as such. Working individual muscle groups can help for a specific need, but the basis of running economy stems from rotational strength and efficiency. . . . Photo: Ikara (Flinders Ranges) 🌲⛰️
