Today is an emotional day for those of us who have called Seiler home. Today is the last day of operation and starting Monday, July 1st the next phase of our combination with Baker Tilly starts. While Monday is a day for looking ahead, today is a day for me to reflect on what I have done here and what brought me to Seiler in the first place. I have truly never had a better boss than Rebecca Duffy. She balances the right amount of support, independence, and trust in her team to allow us to shine. I have learned so much about the financial services industry because of her and she has helped me grow in ways that I didn't see coming. Amy Macias has been so welcoming and a great peer. She has taught me so much about compliance and helped me feel like a part of the team. Nobody could ever be as patient as you, helping me understand the team and Seiler, walking me through fields of study, how to enter CPE into our LMS, and helping me understand how we support our teams with onboarding. There are so many others in our HR team, operations/admin, and service lines that I want to tag, but I think I would break the word count... Change is hard, it is messy, and it is scary. It's a "Roots and Wings" year. I've prioritized my media and entertainment IP development company (aka the wings) that I'm self-funding with a bit of continued consulting (aka the roots). And I've been exploring how to position my advisory to leverage past successes while aligning with my forward focus on the biz of show. Advising companies in these sectors seems obvious. I hesitated till now. Though I’ve been in and out of media and entertainment throughout my career, I expected on re-entry to find a re-learning curve. Instead, I find that what I know from founding 10 for- and not-for-profit ventures, and working with hundreds of companies through all stages of growth many times, is as relevant to media and entertainment as to any of the more than 75 industries in which I've worked. Too. I accept that I don’t know everything, but I know how to find out anything. The congruency of my roots and wings feels like the best of both worlds, just what I needed to do my best work now and going forward.

An interesting experiment at the corporate level: swapping roles. Certainly, this will foster fresh perspectives and promote a deeper understanding of various functions within the organization. However, let’s not overlook the negative consequences like potential disruptions to workflow, confusion among employees, and a temporary decrease in productivity as individuals adjust to their new roles.
TechOne’s CFO recently became the head of people and culture. The chief technology officer became the head of sales and marketing. And their UK head became their CTO. It’s a corporate experiment the architect admits is a little on the crazy side at the $5.2 billion, top 200 ASX tech company.
