What is the value of including your stakeholders in the process? Last week, I facilitated two parent focus groups as part of a project with Scheck Hillel Community School and a team meeting for a project I am just starting with The Hasten Hebrew Academy because stakeholders matter. For the Scheck Hillel Community School project, we are nearing the end of our discovery process, having met with various stakeholder groups -- teachers and parents and administration (next week is students!). For the Hasten Hebrew Academy project, we are just getting started, making sure to consider who are the stakeholders and what could/should their role be in the various stages of our work. In my work, I am deeply committed to the power of the process, including engaging stakeholders along the way. Not only does it give rich perspective and information that can be invaluable, but it helps to create buy-in for the work we are doing amongst the people who will be doing the work and/or whom it will be impacting. Yes, it may take a little longer. Yes, it may add an element of unpredictability. Yes, it means more data that needs to be taken into account. And it also means a better chance of reaching our goals. WHO CAN LEARN VIPASSANA? Does one become a BUDDHIST if one undergoes the VIPASSANA COURSE? ======================== #VIPASSANA #buddha #SunilDudia #consciousness #sensations #anatta #soul #anitya #anicca #sunildudia  Monks and people in general this is what you shall convey; . If there was a class of students from different religions, communities and languages, and if this class of students were TAUGHT subjects of SCIENCE and MATHS BY SPANISH MAN OF JEWISH ORIGIN, then, would the class of students become JEWISH if taught by this MAN? . NO, the students are just learning science and math's and not becoming Jewish just because the subjects were taught by a Jewish man. . Similarly, when one learns VIPASSANA as UNDERSTOOD AND TAUGHT BY BUDDHA, one does not become Buddhist. They only learn SPIRITUAL SCIENCE methods as learned, understood, and taught by the GREATEST TEACHER OF SPIRITUAL SCIENCE that was BUDDHA. . Thus, one shall take learnings of VIPASSANA knowing well that VIPASSANA has no connection with religions, communities or languages. Just like AIR can be BREATHED or INHALED by one and all, similarly VIPASSANA CAN BE learned and taught by all.

Learning starts by admitting that you don't know. And by having an open mind, curiosity. This weekend I went up to London to vote. That didn't go as per my hopes but that's life, that is having different views. It was Open Gardens weekend in the City, which meant thankfully I saw many wonderful and otherwise private and closed gardens and saw Peter Pan's balcony, or an original Victorian Penfold post box. I've also visited the Ismaili Centre by the V&A museum, went to their roof garden and the prayer room- with a short guided tour. It was very interesting. There was a lady in our tiny group who is teaching modern religion in uni- and even she learnt new things about Shia Muslim community and traditions. Diversity is important to me because of this: we may think differently, we may pray to different gods, we may have traditions and culture that are not similar in many aspects- but we can listen to one another with respect, openness, and accept to live differently next to each other. (of course there are fundamental human rights we all should respect and protect) Back in the day when I went to school we didn't have much education about different religions of the world (has it changed?). I got to learn a bit at home from books we had, my parents had an open mind and wherever we travelled we learnt about local culture. The Muslim traditions and religion are something I know little of and I don't understand many parts, despite having gone to a Middle-East culture and history short evening course in Jersey even...It's OK to admit when we have gaps in knowledge. It's a chance to learn and ask questions. The Ismaili Centre will participate in the Open Houses this year again, so mid-September if you are near London you can go for a tour. This week's Parsha of the Bible is: Devarim, דְּבָרִים. What can we learn from it about leadership? In his take of this Parsha, the late Rabbi Jonathan Sacks talks about how a higher form of leadership is one of a teacher. This is demonstrated by the context of this Parsha, as well as the context of the whole book for Deuteronomy, or in Hebrew – Devarim, דְּבָרִים, which this Parsha starts. And the “teacher-leader” is of course Moses, or as he is called in Hebrew – משה רבנו, or “Moses our Rabbi (teacher).” He already succeeded as a leader so many times – gathering the people, instilling the vision, breaking them free of slavery, exiting Egypt against all odds, receiving the Torah and Ten Commandments in Mt. Sinai, facing crises such as the Golden Calf, reuniting the people, leading them through a long and hard journey, leading them in battle, setting the political structure, setting moral values, anointing his successor, and more. But now, he introduces an even higher level of leadership. Teaching. In the book of Deuteronomy, he gathers the Israelites in the end of the Exodus journey, right before they enter the Promised Land of Israel, and speaks to them for the last time. As Rabbi Sacks points – he is teaching the younger generation to make sure his impact outlasts him, by others, which is what education and teaching is all about. P.S. Did you know? Another interesting fact about the Book of Deuteronomy is that according to many Biblical academic scholars – it’s the oldest of the five books of the Torah (the Old Testament), and although placed last out of the five, was written long before the other four.
