We have begun moving new "energy forward" prototypes into the field. These portable and stationary systems use storage to balance generation and load for resilient installation/operation energy. #DIU = Delivering Innovation Uniquely
DIU has partnered with the United States Air Force and the US Navy on the Extended Duration for Storage Installations (EDSI) project, which will make resilient backup power systems a reality for military installations and operational #energy platforms by increasing the minimum power threshold and uptime that #batteries, bases and battlefield energy, and sourcing use can all stay online. "Through EDSI, not only does the DoD get the advantage of energy resiliency during adverse weather conditions, but now we are able to store energy during non-peak times and also tie into renewable sources, optimizing best utilization and economic practices," says Air Force Lt. Col Ben Thomas. This initial phase will be supported by three commercial vendors – CellCube, DD DANNAR, LLC, and Redflow.

Submarines matter. They are complex, take a long time to build, require tremendous expertise to build, maintain and operate and they are perhaps our greatest strategic edge over all of our adversaries. We have to revitalize Americas shipyards and submarine force. https://lnkd.in/gPd_mKGz

US & possibly coalition subs are essential to deterring or winning a conflict in the Indo-Pacific. We lack the ability to support or expand our nuclear-powered sub fleet. We should buy conventional subs from Japan and S. Korea until we can catch up. https://lnkd.in/ecSTZzZe

Agree. With #submarines in any #futurewars, quantity will be as important as quality. Not every boat needs to be an #ssn. They simply need to be quiet, stealthily-designed, have capable #sensors and #weapons suite, and ginormous fuel/O2 tanks, freezers, and potato locker 😎 Time is of the essence. #usnavy #subwars #geostrat #strategicthinking #navalstrategy #buildthefleet #getmoving

This article delves into the relationship between military equipment, doctrine, and the integration of #lowcarbon technologies. According to scientific estimates, the global emissions attributed to the world's armed forces during peacetime range from 1% to 5%. However, determining precise figures is notably intricate due to restricted transparency and reporting mechanisms. While access to petroleum products remains a crucial factor for contemporary armed forces, the process of their decarbonization presents significant complexities. Among the possibilities for achieving military decarbonization, the development and adoption of synthetic fuels -derived from #hydrogen- and #biofuels, stand out as the most direct pathways.
