Five (05)reasons why so many buildings fall apart 1- 𝐃𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐞́𝐞𝐬 : there are several types of foundations (deep, semi deep and superficial); they vary by the construction type and according to the choice of the supporting ground. For example: swampy soils or with low lift will require solid, deep foundations to rest on stronger layers in the soil. 2-𝐋𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞́𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐮𝐱 𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐳 𝐫𝐞́𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐫 𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐝𝐮 𝐛𝐚̂𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 : graviers (crushed preferably), fertage, grout, concrete, mortar, parpaings and any other materials must have some eligible resistance (Consistent with a market and standards). 3-𝐋𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐝’𝐞𝐱𝐞́𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐮𝐱 : Yes workers make mistakes. For a construction site it takes a team of competants and rigorous workers, especially technicians, engineer/driver works, etc. 4- 𝐃𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥 : this may cause a heavier load than expected. So we need to size the manuscript ideally before execution. 5-┈────────────: The materials resistance is not tested by a Bureau of Investigation this represents a great danger since this reveals if we evolve in the rules of the art. It lets us know if our building is habitable and without risk of collapse. Jean-Claude Kouamé Student-Ingenieur y in Applied Geology option: Geomaterials and Geotechnology.

(𝟮)𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆 A road survey involves creating detailed plans for the construction of a road. Two important aspects of this survey are the long section and cross section. 𝑳𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: A long section is a profile view of the road that shows the vertical alignment along its length. It helps in understanding the road's slopes, changes in elevation, and design features such as hills and valleys. By analyzing the long section, engineers can determine where the road needs to be cut into the ground (cut) or built up (fill) to achieve the desired road grade. 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: A cross section is a view of the road perpendicular to its alignment. It shows the road's width, side slopes, and the relationships between the road, ditches, embankments, and surrounding terrain. Engineers use cross sections to calculate the volume of earthwork required for cut and fill operations. Cut refers to removing soil or rock to lower the ground level, while fill involves adding material to raise the ground level. Balancing cut and fill helps minimize costs and environmental impact during construction (𝟯)𝗙𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 Fly leveling is a surveying technique used to determine the difference in elevation between two points. This technique involves setting up a leveling instrument, such as an auto level, at one point (the instrument station) and taking readings on a leveling staff held at another point (the target station). By comparing these readings, the difference in elevation between the two points can be calculated. (𝟰) 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 Contouring refers to the process of mapping and depicting the shape and elevation of the land's surface using contour lines. These lines connect points of equal elevation, helping to represent the 3D topography on a 2D map. #survey #theodolite #totalstation #contouring

Investigation of the behaviour and the design for #piles subject to #ground #heave This paper is presented as part of the works to deliver the Main Works Civils Contract (MWCC) for the central section of High Speed Two (#HS2) Phase One which includes the North Portal Chiltern #Tunnels to Brackley and Brackley to South Portal of Long Itchington Wood Green Tunnel, being delivered by the EKFB Integrated Project Team. HS2 Phase One under construction covers a 230 km route from London to Lichfield. #Slab_track is used in HS2 Phase One. Area Central Contract C3 of HS2 Phase One has 10 m to 14 m #deep_cuttings in the Charmouth Mudstone geological formation (CHAM) at Boddington, Warwickshire. Deep excavations cause significant stress changes in the ground which inevitably result in #ground_heave. Ground heave affects the behaviours of slab tracks and overbridges in deep cuttings. The pile design shall consider the ground heave for #slab_tracks and #overbridges. -➤➤➤ Full paper: https://lnkd.in/djCNwECF Technical Paper was written by: Richard Yuan (Arcadis Consulting (UK) Ltd/EKFB/ASC) Tom Storr (Arcadis Consulting (UK) Ltd/EKFB/ASC) HS2 Learning Legacy PLAXIS Geotechnical Analysis #GeotechnicalEngineering #learning #projects #Géotechnique #Infrastructure #geotechnical #geotechnics #geotecnia #geotecnica #geotech #geotechnik #civilengineering #civilengineers #civilengineer #civilengineeringworld #civilengineeringdesign #civildesign #constructionindustry #construction #constructioncompany #ingegneriacivile #ingegneriageotecnica #ingenieriacivil #ingeniería #ingenieria #ingenieriaestructural #ingegnerecivile #ingenieríacivil #ingenierosciviles #structuralengineering #PLAXIS #Géotechnique #geotechnicalengineer #tunnelling #tunneling #engineering #engineeringmanager #engineeringmanagement #engineeringdesign #engineers #earthworks #excavation #embankment #embankments #tunnels #tunnel #soilscience #soilmechanics #soils #soilstabilization #soilnailing #soil #stratigraphy #constructionprojectmanagement #constructionmanagement #constructionengineering #constructionprojects #infrastructure #infrastructureprojects #infrastructureengineer #foundation #foundationdesign #bentleysystems #FEM #designer #bentley #digital #project #design #structural #concrete #webinar #software #rockmass #geometry #rockmechanics #rock #rockdrilling #rock #mechanical #training #consulting #mentoring #export #building #engineers #webinar #offshorewind #oilandgas #transportation #slopestability #raft #piles #foundationdesign #foundation #foundations #embankment #embankments #engineer #automation #miningindustry #miningengineering #miningengineer #mining

In geotechnical engineering they are designed to retain soil in areas with steep slopes or where the ground requires topographic alteration. 👨🏻🏫 The design involves determination of soil properties like strength, cohesion, and friction, as these factors dictate the lateral pressure on the wall. Types of retaining walls include gravity, cantilever, sheet pile, anchored walls, among others, which are chosen based on soil conditions, height, and economic factors. 👷🏻♀️Engineers calculate lateral earth pressure using theories like Rankine or Coulomb, considering the soil weight, cohesion (the trickiest parameter of geotechnical engineering), and surcharges from nearby structures to ensure stability and prevent failure. #engineering #science #geology #art #technology #innovation #creativity ⏩ Felipe Ochoa Cornejo 👨🏻🏫🇨🇱 for more state of the art science, engineering, geology, and technology 🎥 by Engineering breakdown
