📈 Corruption Perceptions Index - how does it work? The CPI (Corruption Perceptions Index) is an indicator that has been calculated by Transparency International since 1995 on the basis of 13 studies by reputable international institutions and think tanks. ☝️ It assesses the perception of corruption in the public sector and is calculated based on surveys, reports of reputable think tanks and international organisations. 📌 Each participating country receives a score ranging from 0 to 100. The higher the score, the less corrupt the country is perceived to be. Last year, Ukraine had 33 points. We will know what result we will get this time on 30 January at 8:01 am! #CPI2023

Transparency International's annual Corruption Perceptions Index 2023 is out today and makes sobering reading. New Zealand and UK have slipped down the rankings. NZ's decline since 2020 is attributed to a lack of business confidence in public contracting, taxation, and trade opportunities. The lack of transparency for COVID contracts in the UK no doubt influenced its score. In the Pacific, TI noted a slow and gradual implementation of the region's Teieniwa Vision - its collective anti-corruption priorities. Fiji was noted as a country to watch with some positive reforms. What's the solution: public accountability and governance should be maintained or increased. “Regression estimates confirm that corruption tends to have a negative effect on growth and suggest that a reduction of perceptions of corruption, represented by an increase of the Corruption Index from the International Country Risk Guide (ICRG) by one unit may raise per capita GDP growth by about 0.6 percent.” Always nice to see our ICRG data used in the IMF Working Papers to measure the impact of corruption on growth. Have a look at this piece as it applies to Moldova – a country with sound legal and institutional frameworks -but one that faces significant corruption challenges. Under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government in 2023, Pakistan's Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) ranking improved. The decrease in corruption reflects a positive change during Shehbaz Sharif's brief leadership compared to Imran Khan's tenure from 2018 to 2022. Previous TI reports noted a rise in corruption in Pakistan since 2018. The 2022 CPI report found Pakistan, under Shehbaz-Imran's shared rule, more corrupt than before. The TI 2023 report reveals Pakistan ranking 133 out of 180 countries, with an overall score of 29 out of 100. #CorruptionIndexImprovement #ShehbazLeadership #TransparencyInternational #PDMGovernment #PakistanCPI #AntiCorruptionEfforts #GlobalRanking #ShehbazVsImran #TIReport2023 #CorruptionFreePakistan #sparkpakistan

"The 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) reveals another year of little to no meaningful progress towards curbing corruption in the Pacific. For five years in a row, the average CPI score for the region stagnates stubbornly between 55 and 56 out of a possible 100 and at 43 for the five Pacific Island countries in the index other than New Zealand and Australia."
