https://lnkd.in/d5C3NFYh I remember well when people argued that these new innovations were nonsense, expensive, not as good as the thing it will replace, and will take away from the driving experience. Yet, today, those same people won't buy a vehicle without them. In a seemingly never-ending circle, today we deride new innovations that are yet to become mainstream. EVs, self-driving cars, etc. What drives this culture of nay-saying to any new technology? Are we forever locked into the behavior?

A paper from my time at Aalto University co-authored with Claudio Roncoli titled "Network traffic management via exclusive roads for altruistic vehicles under mixed traffic equilibrium" is finally out! It is published open-access in Transportation Research Interdisciplinary Perspectives. We look at ways of making altruistic routing choices attractive by exploring the possibility of having exclusive roads for altruists. Exciting news out of Sweden last week! Scania has just launched their new venture, 'Erinion,' focusing on HGV depot and destination charging across Europe. There are initial plans to set up 40K charge points by 2030, which is a great step forward in HGV charging infrastructure. Electric trucks have been making strides lately, but challenges like range, charging times, and grid demand still need addressing. Erinion seems neatly positioned to tackle these challenges, so it's going to be really interesting to see how they progress in the coming months and years... #ev #hgv #charginginfrastructure #electrification #energytransition

Recently, I have been closely collaborating with the Institut Interdisciplinaire de l'Innovation (i3) at Telecom-Paris, Dr. Le SONG. I am truly excited to work with linguists to explore the reasons behind human behavior and to discover how to create trust between humans and machines. Looking forward to the learnings as the challenge is a timeless one. The title of this conversation is as valid today as it perhaps was when human ingenuity lead to the first horseless carriages that appeared at scale. Then there were no seatbelts, no warning systems and no tailpipe emissions controls. Policy followed and the economics of moving people and goods safely helped democratize access to jobs, reduce distribution costs; per capita incomes and GDP increased. Today technology again leads with electric vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and various levels of autonomous vehicle capabilities. Policy, again, will follow, this time needing to place guardrails on the unintended consequences on road safety of the ingenuity of both human and artificial intelligence. Economic benefits will be there again. Much to learn about how, once again, technology can come to the rescue of technology - in this case wireless communication technology rescuing modern automotive technology (and their ever undependable human operators). GDP increased.
