We appreciate the opportunity to work with local employers and Schenck Job Corps in Pisgah Forest to host a career fair for Schenck Job Corps students. Special thanks to The City of Brevard, North Carolina Mayor Maureen Copelof for attending and showing her support. Job Corps provides students a skilled trade in a high-demand occupation. Schenck provides education and training to support academic proficiency as well as a skilled trade like Maintenance, Carpentry, Welding, Painting, Culinary, Automotive, and Fire Management. Job corps also provides students who are between 16-24 years old with housing, meals, healthcare and a stipend. You can get paid while you learn. Words Matter! They can empower and uplift. Using 'Special Needs' to describe disabilities is outdated and considered a slur by disabled people. * The term 'special' is increasingly considered condescending and offensive within the disability community. * It is an ableist term. * It should not be the standard in society and is not inclusive. * What should we say instead?
