World Humanitarian Day advocates for the survival, well-being and dignity of people affected by crises, and for the safety and security of aid workers. Words Matter! They can empower and uplift. Using 'Special Needs' to describe disabilities is outdated and considered a slur by disabled people. * The term 'special' is increasingly considered condescending and offensive within the disability community. * It is an ableist term. * It should not be the standard in society and is not inclusive. * What should we say instead?
