So we are almost a full month into 2024! There have been a lot of "Happy New Year" and "Happy January" conversations. And it's good to start afresh and to renew your vigour and passion. One thing I do not have a renewed vigour and passion for is my travel into the office 😥 My colleagues in Manchester couldn’t believe me when I explained that it can take me up to 2 hours to travel 6 miles into work at times. Up until October 2022, it took me under half an hour to get to and from our offices; but the removal of a train (I won't mention the line) from the timetable and from my closest stations means my commute to and from the Crone Corkill offices can quadruple on a bad day 😡 I absolutely love being in the office; and part of my job is being out and about meeting with clients and candidates; so, it’s a worthy commute. And, if nothing else, it’s building my resilience. However it’s frustrating being at the mercy of a train system that isn’t in sync with how the City works. Thankfully, Abby Jordan is great with flexibility so I can make the times work, but I’ve spoken to a few candidates recently who’re being held to hours that simply make it too hard to commute in every day. I’m curious to hear from my wider network; how do you make the most of your commute? What flex is your employer giving? How do you manage your day around a commute into the City or West End of London? (please don’t suggest I get a bike, my legs are short, it would take me hours) 😬 🚂 😤 #londoncommute #londonjobs #flexibleworking #cronecorkill Crone Corkill

Increasing participation in a transit commuter benefit is possible, but first you have to address a classic question: Does transit even work for my commute?https://hubs.la/Q02zLJNR0

#Denver is unique in that we have two commutes... The first is driving to downtown, and the second is driving in downtown. Commuter preferences are changing. The ability to work from home completely or part-time has more #Americans thinking differently about where they live. While many now wish to live as close to the #office as possible, “super commuters” are also on the rise. Across diverse markets significant trends emerge, offering valuable insights into the evolving #commuter landscape -- Viewpoints by Avison Young has the data. https://lnkd.in/dB8XPQGg #viewpoints #AYdifference

What's your average commute? For many it's under 30 minutes. For "Super Commuters"? Try at least 3 hours per day, to and from work. These braver-than-most professionals are 'reshaping the geography of work' and big cities willing to accommodate the arrangement are winning out. Mid-size cities, long serving as regional hubs for large employers? Not so much. https://lnkd.in/dcqD2J8U Source: Business Insider #commute #commuting #WorkplaceTrends #ReturnToOffice #HybridWork #RemoteWork #WorkFromHome #WFH

Would you super commute? A 7.5 hour journey to work may seem inconceivable - and indeed it’s not an option on a daily basis - but twice a month….? The bottom line is that what has made super commuting possible is the ability to work remotely the rest of the time - and that is all thanks to technology https://bit.ly/3FMojvP Whatever form the working week of your employees takes, invest in the technology that delivers the tools they need to get the job done with Charterhouse: https://bit.ly/3uaQMcc #hybridworking #remoteworking #technology #supercommuting #workforcemanagement

👊 Super commuter? A new term for you in the future of work; in case we were missing one. It’s an idea still reserved largely for execs. But intereresting… Live somewhere cheaper, more calm and with more space. Commute 1-2X per month a longer distance and do a sprint of in person activities. Give it your all. You probably need to live in certain cities or locations where a fast train or planes are affordable and available. I think about when I move back to Sydney, how nice it would be to be able to live 3 hours away closer to nature but still be able to come for work for a few days/month. I’ve only ever seen execs do this, will the average employee be invited to set themselves up this way. I doubt it, not with the RTO mandates. Too bad…

5:21pm Lakeshore West GO Train is pretty packed. 5:03pm train was likely just as packed. For a lot of Toronto office workers, Thursday is the new Friday in terms of being downtown. With Friday being a WFH day, unless your employer requires 5 days a week in office (shudder). While restaurants in the Financial District are likely busiest today, I'm definitely seeing a preference for getting back home as soon as possible. And really this isn't much different than before the pandemic. I remember going out after work (I was younger and lived in Toronto then) and folks with a train commute would be checking their watches and gauging how many extra minutes they could spend without missing their train. Waiting 30 minutes or an hour for the next train might not seem like a lot, but when you've already been away from home, from your family for 10 or 11 hours, it's kind of a big deal. Before the pandemic, the commute was not that fun for most, but now that those of us who can work remotely did so for 2+ years, commuting downtown multiple days a week makes little to no sense at all for many/most. In person is great, but done with purpose and at a frequency that makes it meaningful. And yet, here we are, waiting for those in charge to catch up, waiting for the experience of the last few years to sink in, waiting for office leases to expire maybe, or more depressingly waiting for a culture shift / generational change-over. Anyways have another 50 minutes or so to think about the above before I reach West Harbour GO. Good evening, all. #Commuting #RTO #WFH #OfficeMandates #WFA #Workers #Work #Toronto #Tkaronto #RandomMusings

Remote work and commuting are creating some unique intersections for some workers, giving rise to the “super commute.” Would you choose to live in a small town for most of the month but hop on a plane across the country to spend a few days per month at the office in a huge city? These kinds of commutes are beginning to pop up as workers looking for the perfect position are willing to commit to huge travel times to spend a few days per month at the office. The commuting and transportation infrastructure of certain cities are much better suited to accepting these sporadic but growing number of super commuters. This could change the growth of some mid-size cities as they fail to compete with larger cities with existing infrastructure. If we continue to see growth in remote work and super commutes, it could change how cities and the nation invest in more robust commuting infrastructure, including high-speed trains between cities and improvements to airline efficiency. #mriraleigh #commuting #remote #transportation https://lnkd.in/dcqD2J8U
