Pro Bono SG 's report card for FY22/23 is out. This is the first Annual Report issued under our new name Pro Bono SG since rebranding from Law Society Pro Bono Services last October. The new name recognises that pro bono efforts must be supported by the whole of the community for the community in Singapore. The rebranding workgroup was chaired by the late Adrian Tan, former President of The Law Society of Singapore and Pro Bono SG Board member, and comprised Dinesh Dhillon and Dr. Wilson Chew. Even when battling cancer, Adrian championed this project passionately and with conviction. I like to think that his legacy lives on through the good work of the charity he helped to rename and supported. Very proud to see the wonderful strides taken across our initiatives, which touched close to 15,000 individuals and community organisations as we crossed our 15th year milestone. These included: 1. Running timely law awareness events on scam detection and cybersecurity for the general public and non-profit sector when the topic was trending. 2. Launch of migrant worker legal clinic at Angullia Mosque and migrant worker cricket tournaments culminating in the finals at the Padang to enhance outreach to migrant workers through friendship building games. 3. Launch of the Family Justice Support Scheme after a 2 year pilot to provide pro bono and low bono support to foreign spouses and the sandwich class. 4. A focus on online harms, including signing an MOU with SHE and SCWO to provide pro bono legal assistance at the SHECARES@SCWO centre and conducting volunteer training on how to support and manage online harm victims. 5. Launch of our first branch office, Community Law Centre @ Tian De Temple at Hougang Ave 5 to bring legal services closer to the community. Notable governance updates include a report on how we implement ESG and our diverse and inclusive leadership as our first two non-lawyers Wei-Ling LOW and Sim Guan Seng joined the Board. Ending off with a fun fact. Gracing the cover of our Annual Report is the Common Rose butterfly, which was voted Singapore’s national butterfly in a competition organised by Nature Society Singapore in 2015. The society said that the red and white patterns on the butterfly’s mostly black wings are reminiscent of the Singapore national flag. Some (in Pro Bono SG) say the black and white of the butterfly wings are also reminiscent of lawyers’ court attire. Credit goes to my talented colleague Madeline Phang who supports all of Pro Bono SG’s communication needs across multiple platforms, tools and projects, including the rebrand, our new website and this mammoth of an Annual Report. #probonosg #accesstojustice #governance

The e-Country Profiles project represents a significant step forward for the provision of information on HCCH Conventions in the areas of legal cooperation and family law. The availability of new or updated e-Country Profiles will allow for faster completion, improved accessibility, increased efficiency - and thus improved cooperation!
We are pleased to announce the launch of the e-Country Profiles project, a new EU-funded project coordinated by the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH. The project will result in the development or modernisation of online Country Profiles for a number of key HCCH Conventions: - 1965 Service Convention - 1970 Evidence Convention - 1980 Child Abduction Convention - 1993 Adoption Convention - 1996 Child Protection Convention - 2000 Protection of Adults Convention - 2007 Child Support Convention The majority of the project’s budget will be provided by the European Union through an EU Action Grant. The remaining 10% of the project’s budget will be covered through voluntary contributions from Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, and the European Bailiffs' Foundation (EUBF). We are grateful to all contributors for their generous support and look forward to working with them and with the HCCH Members on the implementation of this project. It's not uncommon for healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds to encounter discrimination and microaggressions from colleagues and patients. As a healthcare professional, I've personally experienced this mistreatment based on my color, ethnicity, and religious affiliation. Sadly, this is still a pervasive issue that not only affects the well-being of healthcare professionals but also the quality of care provided to patients. Diversity should be celebrated and cherished in the medical field. Each individual brings a unique perspective and cultural understanding that can greatly enhance patient care. Discrimination and microaggressions undermine the confidence of healthcare professionals and create an unhealthy work environment. It's crucial for us to address these issues head-on and foster an inclusive and supportive workplace culture. It's important for everyone, regardless of their background, to empathize with those who face discrimination. By putting ourselves in their shoes, we can develop a deeper understanding of the negative impact it has on individuals and society as a whole. As healthcare professionals, we have a responsibility to advocate for change. Let us stand together, raise our voices, and create a future where discrimination and microaggressions have no place in the medical field. By embracing diversity and celebrating our differences, we can create an environment that nurtures innovation, compassion, and excellence in patient care. #DiversityInMedicine #InclusionMatters #embracedifferences #no_to_racism
"It can be unusual to find a GP from a diverse background who hasn't been affected by discrimination and microaggressions from colleagues as well as patients." Dr Aaliya Goyal is the Midland Faculty's first diverse Vice Chair, and a nationally elected member of RCGP's Council and Dr Onyi Okonkwo is Midland Faculty Honorary Secretary and an elected Faculty representative on Council. They both discuss equality in our latest GP Frontline. Visit our website to read the article in full. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/erCd52Vn #TeamGP #GPFrontline

All qualified organizations seeking to become adult day services providers, as well as existing adult day services providers seeking to expand their services, are eligible to apply for the available grant funds, which are being offered by the Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) at the direction of ODA. Successful applicants will be eligible to spend their funding in multiple areas. New adult day services providers or those re-entering the market can use these funds for equipment, supplies, start-up fees, or infrastructure modifications required for initial operations. Existing adult day services providers can use these funds to enhance service delivery by adding new benefits not previously offered. They can also use the funds to support long-term sustainment in the industry. This could include equipment or facility upgrades to accommodate a larger capacity served, as well as technology implementation and other efficiency efforts. Providers can also use funds to recruit and retain a qualified workforce – including through means such as offering current staff a retention bonus, offering new staff a hiring bonus, hiring new direct care workers, and recruiting new direct care workers. Interested organizations can apply through the OBM website. Successful applicants will be eligible for technical assistance support, provided by LeadingAge Ohio in collaboration with ODA. For more information, visit aging.ohio.gov/adultday 😊💙❤️💜💚

Award-winning Rare Disease Advocate / Rare Disease PAG Leader / Patient Engagement and Patient-Centered Research Science / Co-creation & Citizen Science
I wanted to take a moment during Glycogen Storage Disease Awareness Week to share a highly personal post. In the process searching for answers to our idiopathic (unexplained) ketotic hypoglycemia within our family, it was discovered that we carry multiple GSD genes - a common finding among families impacted by idiopthic pathological ketotic hypoglycemia in Ketotic Hypoglycemia International. This phenomenon is called synergistic heterozygosity. Want to read more about synergistic heterozygosity in inborn error of metabolism? Check this paper out: https://lnkd.in/edDUf8VF The question of whether we have GSD or not remains unanswered, but I have faith that experts like Terry Derks and David Weinstein, M.D., M.M.Sc. will unravel the complexities of symptomatic carriers one day. In the meantime, during this Awareness Week and throughout the year, all of us in the idiopathic ketotic hypoglycemia community stand together in solidarity with the Glycogen Storage Disease communities - together we are stronger. Please take a moment to watch the inspiring video featuring a close friend and fellow advocate family of ours; Jamas LaFreniere and Margot LaFreniere, parents to little Sophie and the founders of Sophies Hope Foundation (CureGSD1b). https://lnkd.in/eT4ASJZT
