5 years ago when I first tried to find my place on #LinkedIn I firmly believed the only way to be altruistic was to do everything for free. To give and give and give because it was the right thing to do and because I wanted to support those, who like me, had nothing left. I had brands coming up to me asking to do influencer marketing and instead of taking the money for my family and I, I used it to support various non profits (I do not regret this at all) I created a 12,000 person community and in spite of friends telling me to monetize, I sat down on a live with John Espirian, I swore up and down that I would never monetize the community. Looking back, I don't necessarily have regrets, but, I now realize there is a difference between wanting to help and being in a position to help. Had I listened, had I thought more about the long term, I would have started creating programs and offerings and letting people decide if they wanted to work with me, if they wanted to take a class or a seminar by me and I would have made it possible. Had I done that, I wouldn't have been able to give to those non profits in the beginning but I would have been in a better position to support my family and make an even larger difference in the future. Today, I did something I was afraid to do all those years ago. I created a mailing list. I did this so that as I continue to speak, to be on shows and stages, as I add more offerings, classes and seminars I can make those that are interested aware and hopefully, get to do some really great things. For our 116th episode, Terser Adamu was joined on the Unlocking Africa Podcast by Deepankar Rustagi, who is a co-founder and CEO of OmniRetail Technology Limited, a unified consumer goods distribution platform that improves the inefficiencies of traditional trade through a technology-driven FMCG platform. During Nigeria’s cash crunch in Q1 2023, Omniretail launched an embedded finance platform, OmniPay, which achieved over $100 billion worth of transactions in its first few months of launching. The cash crunch means a decline in output from cash shortages across the economy and resulted in catastrophic outcomes for businesses and small traders being unable to find the cash needed to pay for inputs, costing the Nigerian economy an estimated 20 trillion Naira ($43 billion).
