🏡 Are you in favor of building more housing? 🏡 According to a recent survey, nearly 4 out of 5 respondents support policies that promote building more housing. However, when it comes to a new apartment complex being built in their own neighborhood, only one-third of the pro-building group has positive feelings about it. This raises an important question: Why are personal preferences and community opposition often at odds with the need for more housing? Here are some key takeaways from the survey: - Homeowners and renters both support policies that promote building more housing, but renters are slightly more in favor. - A significant percentage of homeowners and renters would feel negative or neutral about a new apartment complex in their neighborhood. - Both Democrats and Republicans support policies that promote building more housing, but only a minority from both parties would feel positive about a new apartment complex in their neighborhood. Building more housing is crucial to address the housing shortfall and make homes more affordable. But how can we bridge the gap between the theoretical support for new housing and the resistance to it in our own communities? As a top Realtor, I believe it's essential to have open and constructive conversations about the benefits of building more housing. 28,000 housings units PER YEAR!!! Speaking frankly, we need state leaders to courageously make bold and aggressive moves on housing! Loud NIMBY voices can no longer be listened to. Cities must be compelled to allow the market to build what is needed... zoning erased and replaced by unified form based code. Status quo is not sustainable or acceptable... “When you run that model and build those houses according to our general plan maps, Salt Lake County, within that model’s assumptions, begins to approach its capacity for homes in 2042, and Davis County begins to approach its capacity in 2048,” ... the main reason this happens is because there’s a “lack of land-efficient housing options,” or “missing middle housing — things like townhomes, duplexes, triplexes … (homes) that are built on less land.” #utah #housing #housingcrisis #housingdevelopment #housingforall
