The stats are amazing: Companies that use a skills-first approach to hiring (vs looking for specific previous titles) can expand their potential candidate pool by 20x -- while increasing access to jobs for under-represented groups. Nice piece here on the role that the federal government can play in boosting this approach. https://lnkd.in/gzb-aedd

Last week, Colorado Succeeds members and partners came together to talk about how we support more companies in adopting career-connected learning so we create broader pathways to high-quality careers for more Coloradans. My main takeaway: You need executives who believe it's their responsibility to develop their people and workforce and invest in the programs and the culture change required. Jared Polis, Colorado's Governor, is demonstrating what that looks like across state government. It's great to see what the administration has already accomplished and what they will accomplish in response to these new goals! I hope we continue to see Colorado businesses follow! #workforcedevelopment #careerdevelopment #careerconnectedlearning

With approximately 225,000 job openings in Tennessee, workforce development is a leading issue for our state’s employers. JAG Tennessee has a solution that’s beneficial for students, businesses and the entire state. Few programs that support students with unique needs and challenges are able to report the type of impact JAG has had in its 40+ year history. Because the JAG model addresses both academic and affective domains to student learning, it allows for both cognitive and social development necessary for success beyond high school. In addition, student exposure to leadership activities further leverages their readiness for employment, military, or post-secondary education. How can you get involved? Here are 10 ways that you can make an impact in Tennessee communities while gaining access to career-ready candidates for your business! Learn more at www.jagtn.org!

Ever have to quit a job you loved? Especially with an organization you were passionate about? With a mission critical to the community? It was a tough decision, but I felt it was in MetroED's best interest to resign as business liaison. My wife and I will spend more time in Florida and being business liaison for MetroED requires living locally in Silicon Valley and working with employers and teachers, in-person. My passion for Career Technical Education (vocational education) dates back to my days as a guidance counselor. As I mentioned in a previous post, which bears repeating, I'm encouraged by Governor Newsom's recent announcement to support Career Education. Career Technical Education, CTE, should be a subset of Career Education and MetroED is a model of how to best offer CTE to high school and adult learners. Look into Career Technical Education in California and how to support and promote it. Employers can support MetroED in many ways. Check out the link to MetroED below. The ultimate goal is to have the state of California directly fund CTE and grow the program in every county so that all California kids, no matter what ZIP Code, have access to the type of training and education that MetroED offers. CTE is a path to a high wage/high skill occupations in a growing career paths. Just what our local and national economies need. A solid front end of the talent pipeline. I will always support MetroED and the MetroED Foundation, where and when I can, and continue to advise students in the Merritt College Cybersecurity training program. I plan to take my own advice and investigate how to help CTE in Florida. Also, check out the MetroED Foundation at: www.metroedfoundation.org
