New year: New hope for hospitality It can’t be understated how difficult the past three years have been on the hospitality industry. Whilst some larger businesses and national chains have begun to thrive again due to their steady footfall and their prominence in the high street, we are still seeing a lot of smaller, independent businesses struggle. The ever-rising costs are becoming insurmountable and the industry-wide staff shortages are still proving too much for too many. With that in mind, businesses should look to retain valuable talent now more than ever. Despite the hardships, the hospitality industry does trend towards improvement in 2024, as demonstrated by the 10.3% growth in hospitality salaries across Scotland. So, if you are not nurturing potential and meeting the minimum expectations of your key employees, you can be certain someone else will. You can read the breakdown of how these changes affect your business or your specific job role in the new 2024 salary guides. This is a completely free feature created by Reed designed to give you the figures from across the UK, to arm you with the facts required when hiring or retaining staff this year. To get your hands on a copy; drop me an email or call me at the office. I would be more than happy to discuss how these changes can be factored in to your your recruitment process for any live or speculative roles that you may have. 📧[email protected] ☎0141 2414703 I look forward to hearing from you all! Following redundancy, only some people want to go in at the same level. A lot of advice suggests that following redundancy is a good time to pause, reflect, and decide on what really matters to you. If you are lucky enough to take a little time out following redundancy (not everybody can financially), this is often seen as invaluable and helps you plan for the future with a blank piece of paper. I hear regularly that not everybody wants to return to four-night-a-week hotel stays or spend more time in airport lounges than with the family. If the person in front of you at interviews says that they will not jump at the next senior opportunity, then it is important not to dismiss this and ask why. If the reasons are consistent throughout the interview and there are no conflicts with what they say they see themselves doing in 3-5 years, then there is no reason not to doubt them. Seven years ago, I left a job that required me to travel significantly and be away from home many nights a week. When I was home, I wasn't home early enough to put the kids to bed. I realised I wasn't putting my family first until after I left. Sometimes, we realise what matters to us only after we pause and reflect. #therightway #humanresources #hr #management

Today's jobs report was great news for buyers of hotels. Why? Three reasons: 1. The exceptional pace of hiring does two things: gives greater macro certainty to investors looking to jump into the space and increases the likelihood of higher-for-longer rates, pressuring sellers of hotel assets. 2. The likely stubbornness of inflation, even at low levels, bodes well for ADRs and makes hotels an attractive investment option in commercial real estate. 3. The substantial slowdown in hotel hiring from H1 to H2 2023 means the hotel labor crunch is likely over, something we are seeing play out on the ground. I've mentioned this before, but it looks like 2024 is shaping up to be a window of opportunity for hotel buyers. At Partners Capital, we are pursuing deals across the Sunbelt that benefit from these trends and maximize value for our investors. In 2024, our region added 37,700 new jobs, marking a 3.4% growth! Major boosts came from leisure & hospitality, adding 10,200 employees with new resorts like Fontainebleau Las Vegas & Durango Casino and Resort. Despite a bustling job scene, our unemployment rate stands at 5.2%, still above the national average. But, there’s good news – it’s down by 0.8% from last year! As we tackle these challenges and the rising cost of living, let’s continue to focus on creating opportunities and improving wages (now averaging $995/week). Our latest Employment Review goes further in depth: https://bit.ly/49IK8sJ
