With oil-heavy assets in demand due to the lower prompt pricing of natural gas, the outright purchase of AXP Energy’s holdings in the Midwest and the Appalachian region “fits seamlessly into the mission and vision for growth at Mountain V,” the company said. Mountain V is a privately owned independent energy company with assets in the Appalachian Basin and an acreage position of over 300,000 leasehold acres. It has expanded its footprint into seven states and currently operates over 3,100 conventional and unconventional wells. Its vision includes innovation in horizontal drilling by leveraging a vast acreage position and improving reserves in the mostly untapped, but proven resources in the Marcellus and Upper Devonian Shales in West Virginia and Pennsylvania and the various sandstone formations in Kentucky. Off the Beaten Path Following up on our post from Tuesday, Reese Energy Consulting today is following news from producers who are finding oil and gas magic on the fringes of core-basin plays. In an article earlier this month, Hart Energy featured Denver-based Bayswater Exploration and Production, which aside from its assets in the DJ and Powder River, also operates 48,000 acres in the Permian’s Northern Midland. Here, targeting the Wolfcamp and Spraberry, Bayswater is striking paydirt the farther east it explores. Call it extending the extensions. With a strategy to develop tier-2 acreage positions that could ultimately deliver tier-1 performance, the company first went to work in Howard County, Texas, near Mitchell County, where high levels of carbonates comprised of limestone and dolomite have tended to discourage drilling. Not so for Bayswater, which discovered a rich hydrocarbon environment in the carbonate/shale reservoir, completing its first well in 2021 with initial production of nearly 1.3 MBPD and cumulative production of 430+ Mbbls. Now three years later, Bayswater has moved farther east into Mitchell County, reporting even higher production and drilling six more 2.5-mile laterals with completions slated this summer. Speaking of step outs, gas producers Comstock Resources and Aethon Energy continue their “victory is mine” exploration and development of the Western Haynesville—an extension now aptly christened Waynesville. Aethon, whose newest well in Robertson County, Texas, produced nearly 3.3 BCF in the first four months of production last fall, can’t get enough of Wayne’s world and is now on the hunt for more. Here’s a snapshot of our key highlights for the quarter ending June 30, 2024:   🔹 Project Phoenix (~75% WI) - Dual Success at Hickory-1: Both Upper Slope Fan System (USFS) and Shelf Margin Deltaic (SMD) reservoirs flowed light oil:  - USFS: Peak flow rate of over 70 bopd  - SMD: Peak flow rate of ~50 bopd - Next Steps: Post-well analysis, independent resource assessment, farm-out process, and potential horizontal flow test planning. - Monetisation Potential: Capital-light modular Early Production System and multi-reservoir production capability.   🔹 Project Leonis (100% WI) - Maiden Resource Estimate: Net mean of 381 million barrels of oil in Upper Schrader Bluff (USB). - Next Steps: Permitting and planning for the Tiri-1 exploration well, with farm-out underway for 2026 drilling.   🔹 Namibia PEL 93 (20% WI) - 2D Seismic Program: Successfully completed with 203-line km acquired. - Upcoming: Final data interpretation, resource estimate, and drilling location identification.   🔹 Project Longhorn (~65% WI) - Production Boost: Increased to 456 BOE per day in June, up from 328 BOE per day in Q1. - Cash Flow: Received A$0.5M distribution in June.   🔹 Corporate Highlights - Cash Balance: A$7.9 million with ongoing payments and a successful A$9 million share placement. - Fully Funded: Budget secured for the next twelve months.   We’re on track and poised for significant advancements in our projects. DEAL ALERT Devon Energy has reached an agreement to purchase Grayson Mill Energy's Williston Basin assets for $5 billion, using a combination of cash and stock. This acquisition will expand Devon's holdings by 307,000 net acres and boost its production capacity, while also including important midstream infrastructure.
