Once again, the DMU Inside Edge Mentoring Scheme's evening forum by Andy Morris was not only a success (as expected), but became another great example of mentors having the ability to inspire one another as well! Learning and developing come in varying forms—and for me at least on a rainy Monday evening in London, this has come from those whom I've been honoured to sit alongside — Leslie-Ann George, Robert Quartly-Janeiro and Fiona as we speak with nearly thirty eager mentees. It has been an evening of openness and vulnerability and their shared experiences and knowledge have been communicated with clarity. We have been challeneged, we have been forced to think of responces to questions that we wouldnt have otherwise perhaps avoided asking ourselves. It has, at least in my case, allowed me to re-evaluate my own proffesional strengths and the way I view the trajectory of my career in hindsight. Yes mentors are assets to mentees, but I've also found that the mentoring process is also a massive asset to a mentors own personal and professional development. Perhaps it's the act of retraining oneself–consider it the 'practice as you preach' trope. Either way, I conside this my ode to mentoring. Session Notes: The Highlights 🌝 Learn when to separate yourself from the job and take care of your mental health 🌝 Ask questions 🌝Remain professional and deal with issues as they arise 🌝Keep learning 🌝Connect with people on LinkedIn — but remain friendlty and respectful and to quote a fellow mentor "don't be weird about it". 🌝Don't be afraid to challenege 🌝Social Media/the online world is a great tool—but real life is even better! 🌝Network #Mentoring #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerDevelopment
