Target line-of-sight analysis is an important feature to ensure a well-protected airspace. Completed in the fall of 2019, with air ambulances operational since 2020, the rooftop helipad at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre marks a significant milestone in providing life-saving care more efficiently. This crucial addition provides faster access to Canada's largest trauma center, significantly benefiting critically ill and severely injured patients. RWDI’s wind expertise and wind tunnel testing helped inform the helipad design and helicopter operations to mitigate the effects of turbulence. Also applicable to vertiports, advanced wind tunnel testing can be highly beneficial for determining the optimal landing and takeoff conditions for eVTOLs. The objective of this approach is to evaluate the performance of vertiports in varying environmental conditions by simulating different wind and turbulence scenarios.
