We need to think about architecture that is supportive rather than stigmatising.   This is the message from Swedish architect and lecturer in architecture and urban design, Dr. Jonas E. Andersson, when it comes to architecture for elderly people with dementia.   In order to succeed, we need to work much more with notions of familiarity and the feeling of ''home''. Azna Parveen Architect, Urban Designer Abstract Architecture is a tangible manifestation of time, informed by the economic, cultural and political contexts within which it emerges. Shaped further by functionalities, environmental adaptations and aesthetic trends, it serves as a lens to gain insights into the values, capabilities and aspirations of societies globally. The interdisciplinary dialogue between architecture and social sciences is thus vital in understanding our built environments, their past, present and futures. This talk delves into understanding the symbiotic relationship between the disciplines of architecture and social sciences, exploring how architectural theory and practice intersect with social science methodologies. It emphasizes on the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to spatial explorations to provide a more cohesive and deeper understanding of communities and culture.

Democratic Design focuses on the relationship between people and the built environment, and contributes to the development of projects based on social sustainability and a democratic approach to co-creation, responsibility and inclusion. The department has an interdisciplinary approach and combines competences in architecture, urban planning and anthropology.
