Do you know why we fly our flags at half-staff on certain days? It's a common sight not just for Americans but for people all over the world. Flying flags at half-staff, or half-mast, is a symbolic gesture used to honor or commemorate individuals or events of national or international importance. This practice is believed to date back to early naval traditions, where ships would lower their flags to indicate mourning for a fallen captain. The term 'half-mast' once referred to a flag being flown halfway up a ship's mast but is now used interchangeably with the term 'half-staff.' Always try your best to recognize the time, the season, the reason. Have a vision, set your goals, and take decisive action till success comes. Your vision of success may differ from those currently around you. They may be like the weather to these cannons; constantly changing. Sometimes they aid you, and other times they can work against your purpose. Know when to shift. Never change the goal, but increase the efforts. Finally, let not social desires vary your focus so that you become decorative and far removed from your original plan. These cannons are part of a fort that protected advancing foreign naval vessels - enemies of the state. When modern enemies can now use nearby waters unhindered, a refocus and reconstitution may be required.

Short but powerful statement: "Accountability builds Credibility." - The Almanack of Naval Ravikant Identifying 1% of your discipline and investing rest of your life which is meaningful to you. Applying your efforts have to be accountable under your own name as much as possible, which is risky. It is double-edged thing, it comes with both failure and success. It teaches you to accept both the situation and learn from them. Without accountability you can't get incentive (money or appreciation) and credibility of your efforts and hardwork.

It went from really bad to even worse. This is the closing ceremonies disaster colors presentation for Los Angeles Fleet Week. The entrance is from stage left moving from column formation to line formation and they got ❌❌the order of colors wrong for both directions! ❌Wrong Carry technique by both bearers. ❌Nats bearer, your not aboard a ship where foot separation would be required. That's not the position of Attention. ❌We don't look around either. ❌Colors are different dimensions. ❌Nifty manufacturer's tag on the national color. ⭐US doesn't have fringe. ⭐USN has fringe. ⭐Correct staffs and finials. Whats worse: Eventually, the team stayed in place and went to Parade Rest and the bearers ❌pushed both staffs forward. The video was just too long to post. MCO 5060.20 and NTP 13B apply, although none of these Sailors know that by the looks of things. What's on your #bookshelf? This seems to be the summer for naval literature. I started with "Fighting in the Dark," the incredible study of naval night fighting in the first half of the 20th century from Trent Hone and Vincent O'Hara, then graduated to "America's First Carrier," David Winkler's new book on the USS Langley at the dawn of naval aviation. Now I'm closing the book on "The Mighty Moo," Nathan Canestaro incredible new book on the journey of the USS Cowpens during the Second World War. The story of the #MightyMoo really begins at the end of 1942, at which time four of the US Navy's six "big" carriers had been sunk. As a stopgap measure, FDR ordered - against fierce objections from the Navy - that light cruisers under construction would be reconfigured as light carriers. They were smaller, to be sure, ungainly to a fault, top heavy with a shorter flight deck, and surprisingly survivable. Commissioned in May 1943, the #MightyMoo was a workhorse that fought in most of the major battles in the #Pacific but without achieving much of any distinction. She did what she was designed to do: fill a #critical #capability gap until replacement carriers could be brought on line. When she cruised into Tokyo Bay in 1945 (the first carrier to do so), it was because she was considered expendable... an acceptable risk at the time should events run a different course. The Mighty Moo was mothballed in 1946 and sold for scrap in 1960. An undignified end for a ship that served as well as she did. But Nathan Canestaro is here to preserve her memory, her #legacy, and her name. Grand Central Publishing
