A world in transition! Yesterday I was supporting as a host the Amsterdam Chemistry Innovation Day. A conference and career fair at the science park in Amsterdam called: "A world in transition”, where academia, students and industry came together. I am always amazed about the energy and commitment during these events, when people come together with a purpose and mindset of connecting, sharing, learning and openness to discuss different points of view. Over 350 registrations and 20+ speakers from the academia and the industry and 15 companies on the jobmarket. A learning experience with discussions and insights about science in chemistry, health and its applications to contribute to a more sustainable world. Circular economies, CO2 Valorisation, Renewable energy, Food transition, Biocatalysts the promise and practice, Tea industry transition, The port of Amsterdam, waste recycling and Quantum horizons. So much fascinating and promising science, business start ups and business implementations at scale. A dynamic vibe! But also critical questions and self reflection about the impact we are making, the speed of transition, availability of innovation and the constraints and challenges in the environments we operate in. There needs to be a problem to be resolved, what and whose problem are we resolving? What does zero carbon really means? Science and technology innovation is one, but awareness and the change in human behavior and creating the right environment to innovate is probably as important to accelerate. A big shout out to the organizing committee of ACID24 and all speakers and contributors for organizing and delivering this successful network event. If you want to change the world, start bringing people together, connect and speak up! https://www.acid-event.nl/ Amsterdam Chemistry Network, AIMMS VU, UvA Faculty of Science Amsterdam Green Campus Port of Amsterdam Koninklijke Nederlandse Chemische Vereniging-KNCV Bestuur Amsterdams Chemisch Dispuut #Transformation #Science #Leadership #Innovation #Sustainability #Chemistry #Healthcare #Human #Technology

Get to meet out team! Today, meet Pierre, Research & Development Intern in our Catalysts business line – who has a lot of great things to say about his time with Evonik. Pierre is a research and development intern in the Catalysis unit of our Smart Materials division – with his next step being a PhD! On-site in Hanau over the summer, he’s been #PartofSomethingSpecial – talking about the meaningful work he does, the team he’s been supported by, and, of course… the great canteen. Pierre explains: "What I like most is the atmosphere in the lab. I have an example of this. We couldn't do any analysis for a few days because our chromatograph was broken. So, we sat there for days trying to fix the chromatograph, and a couple of times we felt like we did it, until we actually did it." Teamwork is a cornerstone of Evonik's culture. 🌍 First of Two Exciting News ! Embarking on an 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐡.𝐃. 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲!🔄 Excited to share a major milestone in my career journey! As we step into 2024, I've embarked on a full English industrial Ph.D. in Circular Economy, a field that resonates deeply with my passion for sustainability and innovation. This incredible opportunity is made possible through the generous support of the Coselag Consortium and PNRR funds. Over the next 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬, I will be fully immersed in this transformative experience, exploring the realms of circular economy, green energy, and smart cities, with a specific focus on 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐲𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬. What sets this program apart is its 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. A significant portion of my time, over 𝟏 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫, will be spent working directly with more than 250 companies, allowing me to gain hands-on experience, enrich my 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, and dive into diverse realities within the industry. The chance to contribute to real-world projects is both humbling and inspiring, as I believe in the power of practical knowledge to drive positive change. One of the most exciting aspects of this journey is the 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 it offers. Spending from 𝟔 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟐 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 will not only broaden my perspective but also allow me to collaborate with experts from different corners of the globe. The prospect of learning from various cultural contexts and applying this knowledge to my research is truly invigorating. This decision wasn't just about the present; it's an 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. The experience gained from this program will be at the highest education level, paving the way for 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝/𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 within companies. While my current goal is set on contributing to industry growth, this path may eventually lead me to become a university professor, or both, who knows.😎 How I see the path? Just as my last skialp session, hard but with an immense reward at the end. (scroll the post ⬇) Thanks to all the people that are being part of my journey, in particular Alessandro Massi Pavan and Romeo Danielis , my first and second supervisors that believed in me. Let's keep pushing boundaries 🚀 Here's to embracing change and making a meaningful impact! Università degli Studi di Trieste #CircularEconomy #PhDJourney #Sustainability #GlobalInnovation

🚀 Energizing Exchange with Young Talents! 🚀 During my recent Quito site visit, I had the pleasure of meeting with a group of talented young talents. The energy in the room was palpable as we delved into discussions about career development and the exciting challenges of working across diverse cultures with Pablo Sanchez and Benoite Delaunoy (global OpEx experts). We explored the nuances of collaborating with colleagues from different backgrounds. These young engineers shared their experiences and insights, reminding me of the importance of fostering an inclusive environment where everyone’s voice is heard. In these sessions with young talents, a recurrent question often pops up, how to have great and impactful professional careers? here my 5cts, despite I think there is not a secret recipe, I identified two common ingredients based on my own and others experience, first to know yourself so you can identify your strengths and align your professional choices with them and secondly to work on something that passionate you. These two ingredients don’t guarantee a great career (what ever it means) but increase enormously the odds you continuously feel satisfied with it, and this is extremely important because it is more relevant the journey than the final destination. I’m thrilled to see the results of the successful collaboration between Grünenthal and the University of San Francisco. Top students from their engineering and chemistry programs now have the opportunity to join us for their thesis projects. And guess what? The first wave of students has already transitioned into full-time Grünenthal employees! 🎉 As we continue to bridge academia and industry, I’m excited to see fresh ideas and perspectives infusing our projects. These young minds are the future of pharmaceutical innovation, and I’m confident that their contributions will drive us forward. 🙌 Thank You, Young Talents! To the brilliant minds I met—thank you for your passion, curiosity, and dedication. Let’s keep pushing boundaries and making a difference together! #Grünenthal #OperationalExcellence #Innovation #CareerDevelopment #CulturalDiversity

This is a delayed welcome to Julienne Vivero, she joined the team as an intern in 2022, now making her way through the University again to keep growing. Julienne is our Research Scientist, who has come to show us that we are not alone in understanding that engineering and process control is not a tool for efficiency, but for improving quality of life. We have learned to work closely together and from far away, always with a clear view of the contribution we aim to make on society. We are invited to not lose We are invited to undefined, but I don’t know what is fate as walking I became what I am, joining those that stand, look up and hug to grow "Growing up in the Philippines, where the living standards are not the best for some, then having the chance to study in New Zealand, I started to realise how the call to solve problems that humanity faces in the world today can be answered using our acquired skills and knowledge along with collaboration with others to develop innovative solutions. My career goal as an Engineer is to help improve people's living conditions and contribute to developing a sustainable future, so I am blessed to be working with a company with the same vision. As Vertus is filled with enthusiastic, supportive, and hardworking cookie lovers (can be replaced with people), I am excited to move with them toward the greater purpose of positively impacting the world." #newhirespotlight #industrialengineering #research #science #biotechnology #energyjustice
