Tyler Vincent's Safety Reminder of the Month: Height Awareness Every month, our new Director of Safety will share a safety reminder with our team, providing practical tips for everyone to keep in mind as we go about our work. This month's focus is on Height Awareness! - "Many workers across the U.S. face the risk of falling when working at different heights and can be seriously injured or killed. Since 2020, there have been 13 fatalities from slips or falls in the mining industry, and on average, a worker dies every 17 days in the construction industry from a fall-related incident. Despite advances in technology and rescue efforts, falls remain one of the top five fatality categories each year. So why are we still facing so many challenges as an industry, and what can we do at Turner Mining Group to help reinforce safety? We start by encouraging understanding and adherence to safety protocols outlined by MSHA because following the fall protection guidelines can and will save lives. Whether at work or home, we remind our team to always prioritize fall safety." #safety #mining

👷♂️🛠️ Ensuring Safety at Heights: Ladder Safety in Construction and Mining 🏗️⛏️ Safety is paramount in the construction and mining industries, especially when it comes to working at heights. 👷♀️🏔️ Today, I want to emphasize the importance of ladder safety in these sectors. 🪜 Here are some key points to remember: 1️⃣ Choose the Right Ladder: Ensure that the ladder is the appropriate height and weight capacity for the task at hand. 2️⃣ Secure Placement: Always set up the ladder on a stable surface. Avoid uneven terrain or unstable ground. 3️⃣ Inspect Regularly: Before each use, inspect the ladder for any damage or defects. Safety should never be compromised. 4️⃣ Maintain 3-Point Contact: When climbing or descending, always have two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand in contact with the ladder. 5️⃣ No Overreaching: Never reach too far from the ladder, which can cause imbalance and accidents. 6️⃣ Keep it Clean: Remove debris or slippery substances from the ladder steps to prevent slips. 7️⃣ Train Your Team: Proper training and awareness are essential. Encourage your colleagues to prioritize ladder safety. Let’s ensure that every worker returns home safely each day. 🏡💙 Share this post to spread awareness and save lives. Together, we can build a safer future! 🚧🌟 #LadderSafety #ConstructionSafety #MiningSafety #SafetyFirst

This tragic fatality could have been prevented by which 3 Safe Work Practices? From MSHA MINE FATALITY – On August 24, 2023, a miner died while preparing a wash plant for relocation. In the process of lowering the feed box into the travel position, the miner was pinned between the feed box and the handrail. Best Practices: * Block machinery components against motion before beginning maintenance or repairs. * Do not work under suspended loads. * When conducting a non-routine task, review safe procedures before starting work and ensure all safety components are in place and working. It is also recommended that a Work Permit system be used in these situations. this process would involve performing a Risk Assessment in the field before starting the work/task.

ALL CONTROL SYSTEM - Be safe from the moment you leave the ground. Guiding principles of the Branach Fall Control System ✅ The worker is safe from the moment they leave the ground. ✅ The stability system works from the ground up. ✅ Fall control system stems from the increased base of support. ✅ The ladder is secured with an integrated tether system. ✅ Integrated rescue by second user from the ground. ✅ Allows workers to work from the ladder with both hands comfortably and safely. ✅ To meet and exceed compliance and international standards. ✅ Design fit for purpose, critical piece of climbing equipment. ✅ Periodic inspection schedule recommended. HAZARDS WHILE USING LIFTS Thanks to MSHA for sharing this tragic event....also applicable across other industries MINE FATALITY – On May 9, 2024, a miner died when he was pinned between the personnel lift that he was operating and the roof of a structure. The miner was tramming the personnel lift from the basket to conduct a roller repair on an elevated belt conveyor. Best Practices: Ensure miners maintain control of personnel lifts while in operation. Use a spotter when moving mobile equipment in congested areas and around structures. Monitor miners routinely to ensure miners follow safe work procedures while operating personnel lifts. Ensure miners are aware of their location in relation to nearby structures. Conduct workplace examinations to identify and eliminate hazards before beginning work in an area. Train miners in the safe performance of their tasks in accordance with the manufacturer’s manual.

Mine Safety.....some reminders for working safely on jaw crushers. MINE FATALITY – On January 4, 2023, a miner was fatally injured while performing maintenance inside a jaw crusher. The pitman assembly (moving jaw) rotated, pinning the miner against the crusher housing. Best Practices: Operators should: block machinery components against motion before beginning maintenance or repairs. position miners in a safe location and away from potential pinch point areas; conduct repairs according to manufacturer’s recommendations; and develop procedures for working safely in confined spaces.

Incidental contact with heavy equipment poses significant risks to workplace safety. Injuries resulting from breaking through safety zones, collisions between equipment and personnel, and pinning accidents can cause serious injuries and equipment damage. Fortunately, solutions like Strata's HazardAVERT®️ proximity detection systems offer a way to mitigate these risks. HazardAVERT®️ utilizes advanced technology to detect the proximity of personnel and equipment to operating machinery, helping to prevent accidents and injuries. By implementing this system, mining and tunneling operations can enhance safety protocols and create a more secure work environment for employees. To learn more about how Strata's HazardAVERT®️ proximity detection systems can benefit your mining operation, reach out to a Strata representative or visit https://lnkd.in/eVFdddPg #miningsafety #miningtechnology #strataworldwide

An interesting but not surprising article about two companies and a mine supervisor who were fined $1.57 million after a worker was killed. WorkSafe said “All mining operations must have safe systems of work in place to protect workers from hazardous conditions.” As the person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), it is your responsibility to provide a safe and healthy workplace, as far as is reasonably practicable, for your workers. A safe system of work ensures that work is being conducted in a manner that is safe and involves no, or at least, as little risk as possible. All too often we’ve found that while there has been investment in safety systems and documentation, there has not been the same level of investment in empowering frontline workers, supervisors, and contractors to ensure all risks are considered and ‘safety as planned’ = ‘safety as done’. It’s not just about developing procedures and documentation; it’s about how these expectations are reflected in the practices on the front line. Do you have a robust process for onboarding and monitoring contractors? Do you know if your contractors have a safe system of work in place? Are the safety standards and procedures in documentation reflected in the practices on the front line? Are you overwhelming workers and supervisors with documentation or empowering them with the right information at the right time? Are your supervisors empowered with information about the current hazards within their work area and what they are accountable for? We believe that a safe system underpinned by a culture which continually seeks to improve workplace health and safety practices must start with transparency of risks, effective communication, and the tools to enforce accountability for safety at all levels.
