How NGOs can build strong partnerships with the ministries of health

This is well said. Timeless truth since Alma Ata. Approaches may need to change but the goal remains. The idea of Primary Health care remains one of the most necessary and appropriate interventions that the private sector, civil society, and government should embrace. What is key is the need for the tripartite partners to leverage their comparative advantage to make the best out of the PHC menu. The government should derive satisfaction when communities are served, the private sector should gain returns on investment when they reach more people at marginal profits, civil society, like the government should celebrate community success stories, and above all, communities should enjoy the quality and affordable care they deserve. With all hands on the deck, this formula will take us closer as we inch towards the Last Mile to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030. It's a win-win situation.

Box 12.1 The integrated service model in Northern Ireland Health care services for a population of 1.7 million people in Northern Ireland were reconfigured around the year 2000 (Cole, 2009). This led to a spatial pattern with centralization of high-level (secondary and tertiary) care, and redevelopment of seven step-down facilities. In this model, 42 one-stop community health centres, together with “local health centres” (350 GP practices, some co-located with other services), offer the bulk of primary care (see Fig. 12.1). The model has a pyramidal structure, adapted to the geographic situation of the province (Ahmed, Rajagopalan & Fuller, 2015).

Yet few preference-based outcome measures have been specifically developed for palliative and end-of-life settings.   The presentation reports on a study that aimed to identify which quality-of-life domains are most important to Australians receiving specialised palliative care services to help determine if the development of a new condition-specific preference-based outcome measure is warranted.

Around the world, there are millions of families who live hours, even days, away from the nearest #healthcenter. Being unable to exercise the right to access healthcare leads to deaths or delayed diagnoses for diseases like #malnutrition, whose effects can be irreversible if not treated in time. Community health workers (#CHWs) are key to closing the gap in #healthcare delivery, reaching more people. However, they often operate disconnected from the formal healthcare system, lacking essential medications, necessary equipment and supplies, compromising their well-being, and often, without payment.
