What do you need to consider when choosing a Physical Therapist. When seeking a proficient physical therapist, several key traits should be considered paramount. Firstly, expertise and knowledge are of utmost importance. A skilled physical therapist should possess a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and various therapeutic techniques. Effective communication skills also play a crucial role; the ability to listen attentively to patients, understand their concerns, and explain treatment plans in a clear and empathetic manner fosters a strong patient-therapist relationship. Adaptability is another valuable trait, as each patient's needs and progress differ; a flexible therapist can tailor treatments accordingly. Furthermore, patience and encouragement are indispensable in guiding patients through challenging recovery processes, instilling confidence and motivation. A commitment to continued learning and staying updated with the latest advancements in the field showcases dedication to providing the best possible care. A good amount of what I do as a physical therapist can be summed up with 3 questions: What's hard for you to do? Why is it hard for you to do it? What's it going to take for this movement/exercise/activity to feel easy or normal to you again? What makes my job unique and challenging is that the path and the methods used to get people to their end goal (moving without pain or limitation) can vary widely from person to person. Just yesterday, it looked like working with: - a patient with a recent flare-up in low back pain - a patient recovering from a stroke who wants to walk normally again - a patient with ongoing neck and jaw pain and accompanying headaches - a patient with knee pain following a car accident - a patient recovering from a bicep tear acquired while working as a firefighter. These people have similar goals, but require different interventions and guidance from me. Fortunately, I have the time (because I see people one-on-one for the whole session) to provide these people with the help they need. Did you know that this is how PTs work with their patients? The primary objective? Help people. Now, consider this: the industry's average success rate for graduation is a mere 13%. Whether you're in a small PT practice, a large hospital setting, or the core of PT, that's the statistic. Imagine if your car broke down, and the mechanic said they had a 13% chance of fixing it – unacceptable, right? Your most vital job is to facilitate progress, utilizing every tool at your disposal to bridge the gap between initial evaluation and graduation. 🧠Student Physical Therapists #dpt, when figuring out rehab progressions try and start with the end in mind and work backwards. 🦾Build out programs so that they can visualize their progression. For example if they had a labral repair and can’t throw for 5 Months you know that you should start plyometrics about 4 months and strength at 3 months which means full motion around 8-10 weeks. 🔥Use that concept to make your life easier. 👊 #physio #dpt #dptstudent #physicaltherapy #sportsrehab

Words are important. When does “physical therapy” cease to be physical therapy? Physical therapists have broadened their knowledge base in so many different ways that much of what I see posted on social media looks less and less like what I would call physical therapy. Is there still a true definition of “physical therapy” or is it just whatever a physical therapist does is now called physical therapy because it was performed by a physical therapist?

Being a Physical Therapist isn't about grades, it's about being who we are. No book can teach you how to cry with a patient. No class can teach you for consoling families facing loss or illness.
