Dr. Qwynn Galloway-Salazar brings her experience as a veteran and spouse of a combat veteran straight into her work as a death doula and educator. She sees the value of a multi-layered approach, believing that: 1. We can best companion veterans who are dying by understanding their unique end-of-life needs. 2. We can better support the caregivers of veterans through education and practical resources. 3. We can offer insights to the medical team that is supporting an individual, to help them understand the unique facets of a veteran's life experience and how those may play out at the end. Julia Brownley (D-CA-26). This legislation would improve and expand home and community-based services for disabled and elderly veterans, ensuring they are able to remain in their homes to receive the care they need. Specifically, the bill would raise the cap on how much the VA can pay for the cost of home care from 65% of the cost of nursing home care to 100%. For many catastrophically disabled veterans, the cost of care can quickly exceed this 65% limit. This bill would provide veterans with the choice to remain in their homes, the less costly site of care. This is UNSAT and infuriates me. Trying to schedule an appointment is sometimes so difficult it’s easier to just deal with the issue. And to be honest Tricare is just as bad. The difficulty in scheduling or rescheduling an appointment has to change. These are my experiences with both VA and Tricare as they pertain to appointments: 1. There’s no appointments for over a month or two and they’re more than likely video appointments before in-person. 2. The website doesn’t allow for scheduling or rescheduling based upon the specialty. 3. You wait on hold for sometimes as long as an hour or more before someone answers the call, and even then, sometimes after waiting, I’m asked to hold or transferred or I get the answer germane to point 1 above. Is it inadequate staffing or inadequate technology? Is it updating systems without proper staff training before roll out? We need to do better. Reach out to your Representatives and Senators and let them know, repeatedly, that this is a problem.
