Usually if a full time freelancer, especially one with 5 or more years of doing so, wants to apply for a permanent role, they know what they’re doing, and why. Being a freelancer is exhilarating, enriching, and full of opportunities. Being a freelancer is also exhausting, time-consuming, and expensive. Its rewards can be many, but the challenges often match or outweigh them. Many of us don’t desire to do it forever. It really can burn out the soul. Why pick passion over experience? Recently, we started a project that needed someone with specific technical skills. Instead of hiring someone full-time, we decided to hire a freelancer on a contract basis. So, we started finding freelancers, we nearly got 7 to 8 profiles in that domain. 🚨 I thought every freelancer knows this, but after a sour hiring experience, I'd like to share the basic requirements for working remotely with clients. 1. 𝐀 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Having network issues all the time will lead to a bad client experience. 2. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 - You'll need time to understand a task or requirement, and that's completely fine. But be honest about your experience so your client can make an informed decision. 3. 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐭𝐡 - Take up clients only if you have time to devote to their work. This isn't limited to working hours. As a freelancer, you must make time for meetings, edits, and follow-ups. It's a part of the job. 4. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞— Finalize a price and stick with it. Changing your prices midway will always be annoying for the client.
