Tomorrow is the 4th of July! At our long-term care facilities, we will take any excuse to celebrate with our staff and residents, especially in these warmer months. Here are some fun ideas nursing homes can use to enjoy this holiday: 1.Host a firework screening! Find some of the BEST firework videos on YouTube and put on a show for your residents! (here’s one of our favorites: https://lnkd.in/erU3qAwr) 2.Host a cook-out. If you can’t grill at your facility, consider cooking up some hot-dogs and a fruit salad in the kitchen so staff and residents can enjoy the feel-good aspect that comes with this holiday. 3.Take a moment to address and thank the veterans at your facility, this holiday can serve as a reminder of our gratitude toward their service. Consider creating thank you cards for those that served. Remember that living in a nursing home can be fun and joyous for everyone! What a great next chapter coming out of this tragic day.

Our latest story of impact is from the American Heart Association- Florida. The short-term and long-term objectives of the CPR & First Aid Anywhere program include the recognition of signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest, increased use of 9-1-1 and EMS, increased number of people trained to perform bystander CPR and use of an AED, increased number of people who receive CPR in an emergency, and empowering school staff, students, and parents, to assist in the event of a cardiac emergency. Research demonstrates that people who have received training through the Association's CPR kit trainings perform the core skills commensurate to individuals in a traditional American Heart Association CPR certification course, at a lower cost, and in less time. While we cannot predict how many lives will be saved, we know that increasing bystander CPR training improves survival rates for individuals who experience cardiac arrest. Numerous studies have shown that early initiation of community-based interventions, as well as early EMS arrival, improves survival. In fact, where schools, businesses and community organizations have provided CPR education, AED access, and cardiac emergency response plans, survival rates can be as high as 30-40%. We are incredibly thankful for the impact this grant has made on our community!
