#WhyIworkatRamboll Since the beginning of my career, I have been defending the gender equality in the world of Science and Engineering and more concretely in the world of Green Hydrogen. It is quite disappointing to see conferences with very few percentage of women and seminars without no female representation. Excuses are soon coming into place: "there is very little women in Engineering" or "women like other topics". Saying it simple: total bullshit. In 19 years and 6 employees and 8 bosses during my career, 5 have been a woman. Initiatives as Women in Green Hydrogen show us that there are many women in many different roles, ages and responsibilities in this field as well. I can proudly say that there are companies taking the gender balance very seriously and the picture below from an internal meeting at Ramboll within our PtX group is a proof of it. As we say in Spanish: "el movimiento se demuestra andando". There are still many things to do, even in Ramboll, but we can all help to make this gap much smaller if we are all aware of the issue and we all try to change this. Think about it! On this day, the world celebrates the accomplishments of women and highlights the achievements of those who have broken barriers, shattered stereotypes, and paved the way for future generations. At Smith Engineering we are celebrating 80 years of women in engineering. Significant milestones include the first female Professor, Professor Emerita Genevieve Dumas, who joined the faculty in 1986; and, Professor Emerita Caroline Hanson, FCAE, the first female Department Head in 1996 in Metallurgical, now Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Professor Emerita Kimberly Woodhouse, FCAE, was the first female Dean in 2007. At Smith Engineering, we aim to tap into the diverse perspectives and talents that women bring to the profession. It is crucial to address the systemic barriers and biases that can hinder women's progress in engineering. March 8th is International Women’s day ❤️ It’s a day to raise awareness about gender equality, advocate for women's rights, and celebrate the progress that has been made in empowering women. With that being said, how about a post from from the only male team member at KLH (for now) who shares his thought and experience in working with a group of female engineers in sustainability. 💕What do you enjoy about working at KLH Sustainability? KLH is a diverse and inclusive company which allows anyone with the right energy, passion and knowledge to join us in the push to create a sustainable world.   💕What do you admire about the women you work with at KLH? They have the energy, intelligence, skills and passion to change the world and they work hard every day to achieve it.   💕How does the attitude, direction and ambition compare to your previous work environments? The attitude and ambition are different. Men are usually more competitive as individuals while the women that I work with are more competitive as a whole. They think less of individual trophies and more of company goals.    💕How does it feel to be the only male member in the team? It has helped me understand some things in the world from a different perspective which I value a lot. I would also like to add that being the “different” one in the company makes me get more attention which feels good haha!

March 8 is #InternationalWomensDay, a global day of unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy, and action. It is an occasion to raise awareness of the progress made towards achieving gender equality—and the work remaining to be done. On this #IWD2024, and as we prepare for our #30by30 Conference coming up in May, we’re reflecting on the first decade of 30 by 30: the progress achieved towards greater #genderequity in #engineering, and the work we still have to do. Women still comprise only 19.2 per cent of newly licensed #engineers, and only 15 per cent of the engineering profession as a whole. Now is the time to unite the engineering community—regulators, higher educations institutions, employers—to refocus our efforts and create meaningful change to advance gender equity in engineering. It is with this in mind that Engineers Canada designed this year’s 30 by 30 Conference with its theme of Turning Knowledge into Action for Gender Equity in Engineering. We will take the research and lessons learned over the past ten years of 30 by 30, and turn them into action to accelerate progress towards our goals. The continuing challenges surrounding access to and treatment of women in engineering pose a significant conundrum. In fact, realizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) appears untenable without redressing these gender imbalances within the engineering domain. Gender equality is foundational for fostering a thriving and sustainable planet and stands as an intrinsic human right. There has been some progress in equal opportunity (EEO) in most Western countries where EEO laws have advanced gender equality, yet many challenges still exist in most countries. In this study in IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Marina Dabić, Tena Obradović Posinković, Jane Frances Maley, Božidar Vlačić, Giacomo Marzi, and Sascha Kraus examine gender equality within the professional field of engineering. They find four dominant themes: (a) impact of sex differences on productivity, (b) gender digital divide, (c) discriminatory behavior, and (d) women and performance. Applying the glass ceiling theory as analytical framework, they discern a prevailing neglect toward women's challenges in the engineering field.
