While they share similarities, there are distinct differences between the two: - Origins: - R&B: R&B emerged in the 1940s as a term to describe music primarily performed by African American artists. It combines elements of jazz, blues, and gospel music.
Do you ever wonder how today's music has evolved into such a diverse and boundary-pushing art form? One possible answer is incorporating Jazz, Funk, and Blues into modern music. These genres have not only influenced the sound of music today but have also contributed to the creative experimentation we witness in contemporary music. So, the innovations from the Jazz, Funk, and Blues eras have significantly shaped the music we love today.
The video emphasizes the importance of incorporating fill-in or passing chords in contemporary Christian music (CCM) to personalize and enhance standard worship songs, moving beyond just the basic chords provided in sheet music. I Introduce the concept of fill-in chords through examples like transitioning from C major to A minor using different inversions and chords, demonstrating how this technique can add musical interest and depth to a song. I provide practical tips on implementing fill-in chords, highlighting the importance of stepwise bass movement and avoiding root position parallels in the right hand to maintain harmonic variety and smooth transitions. An exercise is presented to practice harmonizing the major scale with chords in all 12 keys, aiming to build familiarity and ease in applying fill-in chords within a diatonic context, with a downloadable PDF for reference. THE ELEMENTS INFLUENCING THE MUSICAL DIRECTION OF FUSION JAZZ ARTISTS: A STUDY OF LEE RITENOUR Abstract: Traditional Jazz is characterized by swing rhythm, the use of blues notes, syncopation, and improvisation. Jazz music has gone through evolution, birthing multiple iterations of a genre. One such iteration is Fusion Jazz as a combination of Jazz and Rock music. This music has undergone changes, adopting musical elements from various genres such as Funk, R&B, Blues, and other popular music, including the occasional use of computer programing. This study analyzes and studies the elements that have influenced fusion jazz artists. During the process of producing, recording, and performing, musicians often discover their personal musical strengths and weaknesses. This greatly improves or changes the musician’s tendencies on music. This research is to explore the life, career, and musical contributions of guitarist Lee Ritenour, with a specific focus on his impact on the jazz and contemporary music scenes. This study aims to examine the influence he exerted on the fusion jazz world by analyzing the various musical elements present in his compositions.
