Back in the spring, we faced a significant scale-up challenge post-Corona: We needed to hire 20 new people within a few months, nearly doubling our business in terms of personnel 👥 At that time, we had just completed an employee survey where 100% of respondents (25 people) recommended Flyhjælp as a workplace to friends and family. It was crucial to maintain this great culture, even though we were about to double our workforce ❗ So, we introspected, asking ourselves: Who are we, and what do we aspire to be? Defining our identity helped us attract the right people more efficiently. We developed The Flyhjælp Identity, centred around four key values we ideally expect in all new hires 💡 Smart - We look beyond academic qualifications. We seek individuals who make intelligent decisions benefiting the company. During interviews, we prefer asking, “How have you optimized or improved things in your past jobs?” Ambitious - We are inspired by those who set high standards to deliver the best service to our customers. Our goal is to be the biggest and best air passenger right company in the Nordics. Employees should align their targets with this mission. Social Relations - We are more than just a workplace; we aim to be a hub of social activity where memories of Flyhjælp are cherished. High employee satisfaction boosts productivity and creativity. We value those skilled in forging strong interpersonal connections. Youthful Mindset - Age is secondary. At Flyhjælp, we entrust significant responsibilities to all employees who demonstrate competence, regardless of age. "If you are good enough, you are also old enough." A fit for our culture means being adept at working with people of all ages, including the young. I am not saying that we did perfect, and what is perfect? But, understanding who we are and what we seek has significantly streamlined our hiring process. Inappropriate hires can be incredibly costly. Investing time in profound reflection can save a lot of time and money in the long run. The 2024 Glassdoor “Best Places to Work” just came out (see below). These ratings are based on employees’ own evaluation of job satisfaction. Many but not all of these are publicly traded companies. As my readers know, I look at Glassdoor ratings as a quality proxy in my stock selection process. I prefer companies with an overall “very satisfied” rating, 4.0 and higher. Check out the full list, see which companies made the cut and join the conversation! gldr.co/BPTW If you didn't make the list, perhaps it's time to talk about employment branding and marketing. Research on candidate behavior indicates that candidates are interested in your company's reputation. While it can be tempting to dismiss lists like these, the reality is that as an employer these impact your ability to attract and hire talent. While many predicted major swings in employment in 2023, many of those fears were simply unfounded. Unemployment stayed near record levels and employees maintained their leverage. So if you didn't do anything proactive in 2023, perhaps now is the time to get started on updating your messaging, your EVP, your content, your strategy, your recruiting channels, and your tech to make sure you are attracting the right people for your company to be successful this year and beyond.

It should be an obsession for companies to provide the "best" place to work in the opinion of their employees. Emphasis on “the opinion of their employees”. However, the assessment of the best place to work most of the time resides in the opinion of a ranking hired to present this metric. And companies' obsession becomes appearing in the ranking and not in the opinion of employees. A slightly different ranking appears from time to time, and this one, which has existed since 2009 can be a good barometer to know where the best places to work are. This is a ranking based on people's opinions. At first glance, I come with two impressions: the first is that Linkedin is in position 74. And the second is that there is no car manufacturer in the top 100 positions. It is worth investigating further to find out why. Every company can be a great place to work. It doesn't have to be hard, either. A few minor changes are the difference between chasing talent and having a full pipeline of people who would love to work for you. And it's possible for everyone. Here are a few tips: • Hire and fire by your core values •Treat your employees like your best customer • 🎶 Let them growww, let them GROWWW 🎶 | like "let it go" from Frozen ❄ •Communicate as much as you can, as often as you can. • Finally, let them do what they do best.
