Happy 65th Birthday to Barbie®! 💗 We were so excited to attend the Design Museum last night for the opening of a new exhibition investigating and celebrating the world's favourite doll, and the brand's craft, heritage and impact. It's been 3 years in the making. The energy in the museum last night encapsulated perfectly the vibrancy, diversity and straight-up joy that only Barbie® can evoke. We are so very proud to play a modest part in her important and trailblazing journey. As an institution, your relationships are paramount to success.
Absolutely thrilled for the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago "Collectors Marilyn and Larry Fields make ‘landmark gift’ of 79 works to MCA Chicago. The gifted works are predominantly by woman-identifying and Bipoc artists, including pieces by Huma Bhabha, Arthur Jafa, Adrian Piper, Jennie C. Jones and Cindy Sherman." #museum #art #artcollector #chicago https://lnkd.in/dHAeyhdW

Since Brexit, Paris has been working hard on taking away market share from Europe’s dominant art market location, London. One of the highlights of this year’s Paris Art Week in mid-October was certainly the second edition of Paris+ by Art Basel. Read our short report to learn about the art fair and the strong Paris auction results that accompanied this year’s Paris Art Week. #artinvestment #diversification #alternativeinvestments
Read this week’s report in which we focus on Paris Art Week, where the second edition of Paris+ by Art Basel, various satellite art fairs, gallery openings and an exceptional private auction helped to assert Paris’ position as a reawakening giant in the contemporary art scene. #arteducation #artfairs #artinvestment #diversification

Alaine Arnott, Ph.D. Arnott, Ph.D. I’m curious what you mean by “being ostracized, for not ‘conforming’ to another”, what exactly do you believe the museum has been pressured to conform to? What about these requirements are harmful or unhelpful? Ideally, diversity and inclusion should be viewed as progress, correct? So where is the disconnect in the policy that’s written? Do you feel speaking out on what’s happening to the Palestinian people would be “conforming” to what’s being asked of the museum? I for one would love to see the museum standing firmly in it’s advocacy for the rights of those who need their voices amplified. No matter the cost. I would’ve felt immensely more supported as an employee and a woman if the museum had shown any kind of support or solidarity when Roe v. Wade was overturned, knowing the staff is majority women. But the institution was completely silent. Maybe I need to do some research of my own on DEI requirements to understand why they seem to be so oppressive to the mission of National Liberty Museum? Is this a shortcoming of DEI requirements, or the shortcoming of a institution that ultimately wishes to be conservative? If that’s the case…. Just own it. But if your institution truly wants to fight for liberty, there should be no question of how to remain steadfast in that goal.
"We find ourselves having to navigate between funding dependencies, which may compel us to lean toward certain political stances, and the threat of being ostracized for not conforming to another," says Alaine A., CEO of the National Liberty Museum. She shares her experience with the current challenges facing museums, including DEI mandates and securing funding. https://bit.ly/4bu83gN

Every exhibit is a story. When you take a moment to experience it, that exhibit story becomes part of yours. It’s neat to think about. Try this. Scroll through your camera roll to a photo you took at a museum or gallery and spend some time with the memories. Who was with you? What did you eat that day? What else do you remember because of that picture? You may have a surprisingly detailed recollection. Funny thing is, you likely don’t remember the actual exhibit story in this photograph. We are here to help with that. Capption keeps a history of exhibits you scan so you can reread every story and remember details you forgot, or learn things you may have missed. Having those details would ignite even more great memories. Making an exhibit story part of ours is how art moves us, how science teaches us. Go out and add to your story! Have a wonderful weekend. #Gallery #Museum #CoreMemory

Why These British Artists are setting up their own Museums. 💠What is a private museum? It is an institution “intended to house and display the founder’s art collection, and generally lacks the ‘full services’ of a publicly funded institution,” such as curatorial and research departments. 💠The concept of collectors establishing museums is centuries old. The British Museum, for instance, traces its roots to the collection of physicist Hans Sloane, which was then acquired for the nation in 1753. 💠 The concept of artists setting up their own museums, however, is a more recent trend that seems to have been started in 2015 by Damien Hirst. Its primary purpose is to “present exhibitions of work from Damien Hirst’s art collection”.Hirst has used the space to showcase his own and a few other artists' works with a survey of his works in 2020–21 and his latest series of physical and NFT works being shown in 2022. Link to Artsy Article below. 💠What do you think of this idea of private museums and the idea of self-curation by artists? Share your thoughts with us. 👇 #art #museum #artsy #innovation #artcurators

Is it possible to break out of the scarcity mentality trap that many museums get into? It is possible. Inspiring, courageous, generous, and bold leaders like Sally Shaw MBE, Director of Firstsite, prove it every day. When you talk to her, as I have done today, it becomes very clear. It is possible to overcome structural constraints by believing in other values such as generosity, unconditional community support, trust in each other, and inviting others to share them. I love Sally's museum-cave concept. Despite the passage of time, human beings remain the same and seek similar things: to connect with others, to feel part of others, to feel respected, valued, and supported. Sally and her team make this possible because, as she says, the more you give, the more you receive and generate. This is how a museum arises from the mentality of the gift and collective generosity. They are changing the museums and the society for the better. https://firstsite.uk/
