Big Boy #UP4014 arrived in Carlin, Nevada, to a warm welcome from city officials and the community, where the city received its official designation as Train Town USA. Thanks for the brass band and burgers, Carlin!
At one point, I’m told the crowd began chanting “use more composite rail ties.” Makes sense seeing how environmentally beneficial they are. We’ve got you covered Train Town!!
If your home’s foundation walls are starting to fail, it can be pretty scary. After all, this is your home’s foundation we’re talking about — everything in your home, including your home itself, rests upon them. And while total foundation replacement is possible, it’s incredibly expensive and disruptive. What if we told you we had a better option? It’s called the EverBrace system, and it’s revolutionizing how we fix failing foundation walls. Check it out!

An interesting article on political leadership and transforming a town.
2 points stand out:
1) he educated and continues to educate himself, 6 hours a week, on topics like design.
2) he focused on doing the best job and not the popularity needed for re-election. Specifically,
“Brainard was able to maintain confidence in his ideas when he faced opposition for a simple reason: He didn’t care about re-election. He loved being mayor but recognized that, as a lawyer, he could always make more money in the private sector. If he was going to be mayor, however, he wanted to do bold things.”
We need more leaders who remain bold or grow into being bold - especially educated leaders who understand root causes and solutions.
Worth the read. Story after story of how the grind of fighting against well-intended but misinformed remonstrators being worth it. And with all his successes, it’s not surprising how the focus was on density and not sprawl. Seems like the mayor was a student of #StrongTowns before that was even a thing.
