Canada is based on liberal principles enshrined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Surely the rights and freedoms that we enjoy must have limits. When did vandalism, harassment, intimidation and the targeting of businesses become acceptable in Canada? Why is it acceptable for people calling for a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas were able to harass and intimidate skaters at Nathan Phillips Square? Why is it acceptable for protestors calling for a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas vandalized locations of Starbucks and Indigo? The arsonists who set fire to International Delicatessen Foods committed a hate motivated crime. Will they be brought to justice and punished for their actions? Why is it acceptable for officers of the Metro Toronto Police Department to give coffee and doughnuts to people demonstrating, protesting and blocking traffic at the Avenue Road and 401 bridge? Tensions become inflamed as people call for an Intifada and chant the incitement to genocide, "From the river to the sea..." There was a ceasefire on 6 October. It was shattered on Shabbat morning, 7 October. Once again the world stays silent.

On International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Slavery, we are remembering the millions of men, women and children who were brutalized in slavery through the transatlantic slave trade. This is not just a reminder to #RememberSlavery and its legacy of racism and prejudice that lives on today, but a call to action. The transatlantic slave trade would not have come to an end without the powerful activism of people who were themselves enslaved. They bravely shared their first-hand experiences, built awareness and mobilised community action bringing an end the horrors of historical slavery. Today, we need to do more to create the space to empower survivor leaders who know better than anyone that we need change. The Freedom United community is actively demanding a global society where modern slavery no longer thrives and where survivors are empowered to lead. You can do two things today to join the fight against modern slavery and help build a movement that is led by survivors and informed by lived experience. 🖋️ Take action by signing the My Story, My Dignity Pledge and commit to represent modern slavery and survivors’ experiences with dignity: https://lnkd.in/dXY-BG9 💬Tell us if you think enough is being done to #RememberSlavery and victims of the transatlantic slave trade? Would you like to see more memorials? And do memorials go far enough? 🤔 Share your thoughts in the comments & how slavery is remembered wherever you are in the world 👇

I want to address all the moralizing hand-wringing blue dog DINOs who decry that there is no place for violence in American politics. 1. We are nation built by, for, and through violence. We violently erased the lives and cultures of hundreds of First Nations. We violently trafficked, enslaved, bred, raped, tortured and murdered millions of Africans. We violently persecute women and the feminine in all matters. We are conservators and evangelists of rape culture. 2. Our entire economy relies upon racialized, subsistence-wage underclasses at home and abroad. All your organic food, native prints, upcycled decor, EVs, and exotic vacations rely on this same underclass. Until you are prepared to grow your own food, filter your own water, make your own shelter, clothes, and medicine, until you are ready to decolonize your thinking, being, and doing, STFU about peace. Start with this film, then "People's History of the US", "The 1619 Project", and "An Indigenous People's History of the US".

Today, as we commemorate Juneteenth, we must recognize the entrenched issue of food insecurity in Black communities. Structural barriers such as systemic racism and economic disparities contribute to unequal access to nutritious food. Addressing food deserts and promoting economic equity are crucial steps toward a more just society where everyone can access the resources they need for a healthy life. #Juneteenth #FoodInsecurity #SocialJustice

We are not alright at all.
We are not alright. We are not alright when we see young girls pulled from their home and dragged through the streets. We are not alright when we see grandmothers being pulled away from their homes and children shot in front of their families. We are not alright when right here in the city of New York there are those that celebrate at the same time when the devastation is taking place in our city. We are not alright when Hamas believes that they are fighting on behalf of something and that destructive, that despicable action is carried out. We are not alright when we still have hostages who have not gone home to their family. Your fight is our fight! We stand united together! This mornings coffee break topic. Next week, for something completely different. The kilt was banned in Scotland In 1746 by the English Crown, following the Jacobite rebellion in the Highlands, banned wearing of the kilt. The ban, which lasted 35 years, was imposed to suppress the rebellion and was part of a series of measures to bring the clans under government control. The Dress Act of 1746 declared the wearing of kilts illegal, with severe consequences for those found in violation. However, by 1782, the ban was lifted as the fear of a Scottish uprising had diminished. The kilt, once considered a symbol of rebellion, eventually became a powerful symbol of Scottish identity For more information check out the links below. https://lnkd.in/gB9vaB-K https://lnkd.in/gNqfK_V6 https://lnkd.in/gjHhAJ4R

Ants are actually trickier to deal with than you might first think. 🐜👑A queen ant lays hundreds of eggs every day and can easily live to be 15 years old. To treat for ants you need to kill this queen, but she lives inside the nest. The ants you see out and about are her workers who are foraging for food, so when you are using ant powder you are killing the workers but not the source of the problem. Gel baits are generally the best solution to kill ants. The foragers take this to the nest and feed to the queen. However, though you have killed the queen, there will still be maturing ants in the nest so you'll will still see workers around for a days to weeks after. This is the point when using ant powder will speed up the removal of the remaining workers. If you are worried about ants in your home then contact your local professional. A lot of science and knowledge goes into dealing with insect infestations, and the professionals will use this for a successful treatment. https://lnkd.in/ecFvUJG www.bpca.org.uk/find #monday #mythbusters #ants #queen #pestcontrol
