In my previous post, I talked about “Why Community Participation is Crucial for Successful Projects.” In this post, I want to discuss “Enhanced Relevance and Effectiveness in Sustainable Community Projects.” From my experience working with community leaders, I have found that involving community members in planning a new clean water supply system has proven to be a game-changer. By ensuring that the services offered align perfectly with the community’s needs, we have seen a significant increase in usage and maintenance. This approach not only guarantees that the system is well-kept but also generates revenues that are reinvested into other community projects. Importantly, this model reduces dependency on external funding, fostering a sense of ownership and sustainability within the community. Please share your experiences and comments below.

Who is EdinBRIC? You may have seen our recent post in collaboration with Edinburgh Building Retrofit and Improvement Collective. But who are they, and what do they do? EdinBRIC is an Edinburgh-wide collective supporting resilient community development through the collaborative improvement of buildings. The collective exists to: 🔗Connect and support individuals in setting up and running groups as well as connecting like-minded groups with each other and other organisations. 🛠️Support tenement owners through the repairs process with useful tips and resources and connect them with suitable professionals and those who have done repair and retrofit work before to plan, get funding, and carry out works in their building. 🗣Share what's been learned to help others and promote collective action and a community-based approach to developing sustainable and resilient communities.
