Aston Villa New Club Partnership with Spanish 3rd tier club Real Union, a founding member of LaLiga Unai Emery brought a majority stake back in 2021. Emery's grandfather, Antonio, played 110 games as a GK for the Spanish club from 1928-1935. Emery's father, Juan, also a GK played 15 games for Union from 1957-59. V Sports partnership will partner with Emery to help develop technical and coaching methodologies, whilst also involving collaboration on areas including performance and data.   Does this type of collaboration (Manger/Emery & Employer/V Sports) suggest they have a long term commitment to each other. A.S. Roma vs. Sporting Clube de Portugal Clash Over Teenage Talent 🌟 In a high-stakes legal battle at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Italian football club A.S. Roma clashed with Portuguese side Sporting Clube de Portugal over the future of young player Etienne Catena. 🔥 Roma sought a lucrative training compensation payout from Sporting, claiming Catena - whom they had trained since youth - joined the Lisbon-based club under unique circumstances that triggered payment obligations. 💰 However, Sporting argued Catena's transfer was legitimate under FIFA rules. The club claimed Roma failed to demonstrate a genuine interest in retaining the player's services - a prerequisite for demanding training compensation. ⚽️ Ultimately, the CAS panel dismissed Roma's appeal, finding the Italian club did not meet requirements under the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP), including: ✅ Catena's transfer from Roma to Sporting complied with the RSTP as an international move between clubs ✅ Roma was not prevented from offering Catena a professional youth contract, which could have retained him ✅ Roma's stated intent to potentially offer a future professional contract via letter lacked genuine interest 📄 The crux was whether Roma proved genuine interest in retaining Catena's services, which the CAS panel ruled it did not, entitling Sporting to the prestigious Portuguese academy product. 😀 This precedent-setting clash showcases the complex interplay between FIFA rules and national youth development systems like Italy's "giovani di serie." This has happened 9 times this season: NK Rogaška substituted their young goalkeeper Zan Lorber (born in 2006) in the first minute of their game against NK Domžale. There is a rule that forces all teams in the first and second division of Slovenia to use a player eligible for the under 21 national team. I like these kind of rules, specially in places where there are not many opportunities for young players (not the case of Slovenia IMO) but if you leave the door open for this kind of scenario it is bad for the league, the match and the young player. When you have those rules (foreigner limits, homegrown players, young players, etc.) you can plan accordingly in pre-season and it is part of your ability when you are building a squad. I love doing that. There are always ways to outsmart your competition using the rules and be more efficient. There are other leagues where young players have to play a at least one half or the entire match. Also there are countries where the FA give money to clubs for the minutes of young players although the best reward is developing your local talent so they become important players for your senior squad and / or a big transfer abroad.
