We've been spending time out in the community this summer offering cancer screenings and other preventive care right in local neighborhoods. Our mobile mammography team spent nearly two weeks in the parking lot of Upper Darby's Fresh Grocer administering 339 mammograms, an all-time high for this effort since its inception in 2021. Staff also volunteered their time at the Community of Compassion Health Fair, performing countless eye and throat exams, PSA blood draws, vascular and liver ultrasounds, and more. Thanks to all the volunteers working to improve #healthequity and keep our communities healthy this summer!

Payers should be prepared for the wave of patients coming and open up resources to keep them aging in place with a caregiver at home. This is where I’d like to see more innovation and learning. The Alzheimers initiative for payers is a great use case for machine learning and prediction using data made accessible via Patent Access API for operational use cases to inform future management of the Alzheimers wave predicted to spike in 2025 (reported by CNN nearly 5 years ago). The time has come, payers and providers should be prepared and properly reimbursed for serving these vulnerable populations. These patents are excluded from Quality measurement, but the financial burden of not following this population will be huge if organizations don’t get ahead of it now.

The health of our workforce is one of our top priorities! Each month, LAS sponsors workshops on important health and wellness topics. This month's session focused on skin cancer and sun safety. University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) staff spoke on prevention and healthy practices during these hot summer months. Here are a few sun-safety facts to consider: ☀️☀️☀️☀️ 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk for melanoma. ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Protection from UV rays is important all year, not just during the summer. UV rays can reach you on cloudy and cool days, and they reflect off surfaces like water, cement, sand, and snow. ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Sunscreen isn't an all-protective force field - it's actually intended to be combined with other sun-safety approaches.
