We've been spending time out in the community this summer offering cancer screenings and other preventive care right in local neighborhoods. Our mobile mammography team spent nearly two weeks in the parking lot of Upper Darby's Fresh Grocer administering 339 mammograms, an all-time high for this effort since its inception in 2021. Staff also volunteered their time at the Community of Compassion Health Fair, performing countless eye and throat exams, PSA blood draws, vascular and liver ultrasounds, and more. Thanks to all the volunteers working to improve #healthequity and keep our communities healthy this summer!

Education is key and this is exactly what is needed.
Advancing awareness and dialogue around #MultipleMyeloma (MM) is critical, particularly among Black families, as 20% of all cases of this rare and complex disease occur in Black patients. This #NationalBlackFamilyCancerAwarenessWeek’s theme, “Engaging the Generations,” highlights the essential role families play throughout diagnosis and treatment, especially by encouraging proactive and candid discussions around health. At Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, we are committed to this core aim of supporting patients and their families across the MM disease continuum. One way we're demonstrating this commitment is through our That's My Word program, which is designed to help normalize proactive health conversations, with the goal of helping to address the disproportionate impact of this disease on the Black community. 3 common myths about #leprosy that aren’t true: ❌ Myth: Leprosy is an ancient disease. ✅ Fact: Leprosy still exists and affects people in more than 120 countries around the world. ❌ Myth: Leprosy only affects adults. ✅ Fact: Many children are affected by leprosy. This not only impacts their health, but also prevents them from going to school, which can hinder their opportunities in the future. ❌ Myth: There is no cure for leprosy. ✅ Fact: Leprosy is treatable. However, many people in remote areas don’t have access to those treatments or don’t know they are available. We want to live in a world where everyone can access treatment and support for NTDs no matter where they live. Along with our partners, we work in multiple countries to strengthen healthcare systems and raise awareness about NTDs to help stop discrimination. As we come to the end of May, we celebrate the conclusion of Macula Month 2024. This month has been dedicated to raising awareness about macular disease, the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia. If you’re over 50, living with diabetes or have family with AMD, you’re at increased risk of macular disease. Key Takeaways from this month: Early Detection is Vital: Regular eye exams can catch macular diseases early, leading to better outcomes. We encourage everyone to make annual eye check-ups a priority. Advancements in Treatment: The field of ophthalmology is constantly evolving, with new treatments and technologies offering improved prospects for those with macular conditions. Community Support is Crucial: Whether you’re a patient, caregiver, or advocate, your role is vital in building a supportive community and advancing our shared goals. Although Macula Month 2024 is concluding, our efforts to raise awareness and support those affected by macular disease continue year-round. #maculamonth #maculardisease #AMD #eyeexam #eyetest #checkmymacula #eyes #vision

EMS is full of extraordinary capabilities just like this when properly reimbursed and funded for those services.
NBC News with Lester Holt aired a story tonight at 6:30 PM about a 6-year-old girl who was hemorrhaging and became unconscious after a severe post-tonsillectomy bleed. She happens to be the daughter of our District Chief from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. The story is one of heroism and action, but it's also a glimpse into the future of pre-hospital care in this country. Here is the full story with Cynthia McFadden! At Astellas, we put patients at the heart of everything we do, which is why we value partnering with patient organizations. We recently sat down with representatives from Macular Society, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), Foundation Fighting Blindness, Asociación Mácula Retina and Comitato Macula to discuss the key challenges and unmet needs of patients with retinal diseases. Together we talked through how we can best support and positively impact the patient community. Payers should be prepared for the wave of patients coming and open up resources to keep them aging in place with a caregiver at home. This is where I’d like to see more innovation and learning. The Alzheimers initiative for payers is a great use case for machine learning and prediction using data made accessible via Patent Access API for operational use cases to inform future management of the Alzheimers wave predicted to spike in 2025 (reported by CNN nearly 5 years ago). The time has come, payers and providers should be prepared and properly reimbursed for serving these vulnerable populations. These patents are excluded from Quality measurement, but the financial burden of not following this population will be huge if organizations don’t get ahead of it now.
Molina Healthcare is a proud supporter of the 2024 Unforgettable Tour, which is presented by the Alzheimer’s Association to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia in underserved communities. The goal of the production is to draw more attention to the benefits of early diagnosis and treatment for a disease that affects nearly 7 million Americans, with a disproportionate impact on communities of color. The health of our workforce is one of our top priorities! Each month, LAS sponsors workshops on important health and wellness topics. This month's session focused on skin cancer and sun safety. University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) staff spoke on prevention and healthy practices during these hot summer months. Here are a few sun-safety facts to consider: ☀️☀️☀️☀️ 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70. ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk for melanoma. ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Protection from UV rays is important all year, not just during the summer. UV rays can reach you on cloudy and cool days, and they reflect off surfaces like water, cement, sand, and snow. ☀️☀️☀️☀️ Sunscreen isn't an all-protective force field - it's actually intended to be combined with other sun-safety approaches.
