This summer’s Business Success Academy was, well… a success! High school students had the opportunity this week to get a leg up on learning about business. They heard from esteemed speakers on the keys to success, they worked together on presentations and they even squeezed some time in for fun! Da Ke, assistant professor of finance at the Darla Moore School of Business, is re-framing our understanding of household decision-making and public opinion. His research reveals that economic surveys often overlook valuable voices and that gender norms can dismiss even better-informed female partners. The Moore School’s undergraduate operations and supply chain program continues to shine, holding the No. 3 ranking in North America, according to global research firm Gartner! The graduate program also impresses, climbing to No. 5 for the first time. This prestigious ranking follows the management science department receiving the renowned UPS George D. Meet Marli Fichtner, a dedicated student who found her calling at the Moore School's Master of Arts in Economics program. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Marli moved to Columbia, South Carolina, when her husband started his residency at Lexington Medical Center. She enrolled at the Moore School for convenience, but found an encouraging environment that helped her grow as both a person and a scholar. With four years of experience as a data analyst, Marli thrived in the MAEcon program, learning to enjoy the research process and balance work and life effectively. Her time at the Moore School sparked an interest in public policy, and she dreams of working at the intersection of public policy and economics, aiming to make a significant impact.
