Health and Safety sometimes get a bad rep, but its an area that gives direct reporting and contact into the heads of all businesses. I've worked with, supported and audited 1000's of business owners and Manging Directors over the years in my role as both Consultant and Auditor. Many people don't realise the level of privilege that it brings; but also the peek behind the curtain it gives to get to know these people at the top of each business. Within my role I've never lost sight of the "health" aspect of health and safety, which in many instances means less clipboard and red pen, and more conversations into how even the leaders of businesses manage the stress and pressure of life. I cant recall one person that I've worked with where I've thought that the person has it all together. In fact I would say that its normally the opposite of that; that person has often created an island for themselves to protect them from the pressures of life. This fully includes myself - having been my own best hero and villain at times. Its hard to have those conversations some times - when you are someone that sees and feels the battle that people are facing and wants to help. What's being built at NXT45 is a community that supports such people, and curates an environment of openness and shared experience for men in that second stage of their lives. Second stage of life - that sounds like a daunting prospect, and maybe a deep breath before we set those words free into the air... For me its a badge of honour to say that - I've made it through the stormy and turbulence that youth brings, and have reached the summit of my "first mountain" but where to next? I've been focussing on this challenge for the past 2 years and have found the next peak to look up to. I have only been able to do that by surrounding myself with new people who face the same challenge as I do. They haven't given me the answers - but they have shown me the questions I should be asking of myself. So I ask of you - are you asking the right questions of yourself - do you know the path forward - but most importantly - have you surrounded yourself with the right community to help you on your path?

🤨 How do you respond when you get thrown a curveball? 🎭 I was performing my improv show, Neil+1, in Paris a few days ago and a curveball came my way. In the show, I invite an audience member on stage to become my partner. The curveball was that half way through the show, the audience member left the stage and her friend randomly jumped up and took over instead! 🙏 Thankfully, the improv skill of "Yes, and" kicked in, and rather than seeing the moment as something to be adverse to, I instead leaned in and embraced it. It made for quite an enjoyable spectacle for the audience. Two points here: 1️⃣ When any change happens, within 5 seconds our brains decides (a) is this good or bad?, and (b) what is the impact for me? We all have to make a decision in the moment. Sometimes when we embrace the change the magic can happen! 2️⃣ In meetings, when we see someone struggling, we can be an ally or sit back and enjoy the show. We all have a choice in terms of how we show up for people and have each other's backs. #improv #yesand #curveball #ally #thinkingonyourfeet #change
